#3 now and assuming they beat Oklahoma

A) VT and Stanford both lose, making OSU the clear #3. Voters that dont want to see a Bama/LSU rematch put OK State #2 and Bama #3, but Bama probaly still stays #2 in the human polls.

B) VT and Stanford both win. Voters that dont want to see a Bama/LSU rematch put OSU #2 and use VT and Stanford as a buffer between OSU and Bama. At the same time some voters may also put OSU behind VT or Stanford. #2-5 is a cluster frick.

If the barn at least keeps it close with bama, does that sway some voters to think they arent worthy of a rematch?

I honestly think Alabama is stuck at #2 now, unless they lose to Auburn. And I just don't see that happening.

Not sure about that. Ok State is a clear #2 in the computers. They get a free jump up to #3 in the polls without playing this week. And they will get more votes in the human polls if the beat Oklahoma. That big BCS gap between OSU and Bama is about to close quickly. It will just come down to how close they can get to Bama in the human polls.

Best chance is obviously if Bama loses. Short of that Stanford and Va Tech losing would help, especially VT.

With OSU at #2 in the computers, all they would need is about 25-30% of the 2nd place votes to pass Bama in the BCS.

If it isnt LSU and Bama then you dont have anywhere near the best 2 teams in the country. The tigers or Bama will put a beat down on any other team. It would be a shame if there isnt a rematch in the big easy!

Mandel at SI seems to think it is a lock for LSU no matter what and most probably a lock for LSu Bama 2 unless the Burns can beat Bama.

Good for him if he thinks its a lock what human voters will do on Dec 4

I just don't think OSU can beat Oklahoma. I think most of the voters don't think they can either. I'd be really surprised if OSU doesn't jump Bama if they win.

that really has nothing to do with the price of tea in China.

They are 6 in the polls, moving to 5 for sure with Arky losing. Unlike Bama and Stanford they will play next weekend in a high profile game. if they win it, they will be Big 12 Champs, good chance they pick up votes, just by playing while others were off. Will it be enough to get 25-30% of the votes? We'll see, but i don't think its unreasonable.

I think if Ok State wins they're in. The pollsters will look this week and start adjusting

My pick is they are 3 in the human polls, but 2 in the BCS. Will be much more likely if VT loses.

I don't either.. which all the more reason why they will make a significant jump if they do win this game.

So why does Stanford and VT losing help avoid a rematch?

They're in the way right now in the human polls.

For OSU to pass Bama, they would need somewhere between 25-30% of the #2 votes in the human polls and all the #3 votes. If VT wins the ACC and avenges their only loss, they will take crucial #3 votes from OSU. Add Stanford in there and OSU loses even more votes, meaning they'd need more #2 votes, which is unlikely.

They are and will remain 2nd in comps. They just need to pull some 2nd place votes, and with Arky gone, they can possibly get enough to jump Alabama. a VT loss would help immensley as well.

Ohhhh ok. I was only looking at BCS and hadn't seen the other polls. See what you're talking about.

Who else would they lose to though?
I think Stanford only has Notre Dame left and VT has their champ game against who left?
