the positive correlation is between strikeouts per plate appearance and walks per plate appearance.

do you have a link for that?

FWIW: looking at the NL right now, there are 12 guys with 100K's. 5 of them are in the top 12 BB, 3 in the top 12 OBP.

I see no probleme with the statement that guys the strike out a lot usually are less disciplined hitters.

Key words are in bold

So everything you said is utterly worthless in this discussion.

so i didn't read your statement carefully enough, gfy.

this has spiraled way out of control. Some said strike outs by a hitter is the most over rated stat in baseball. I disagree, for starters, i don't think its rated as an important stat, so it can't be over rated (where was wins, saves, BA and RBI's are considered important stats) I also disagree with the notion that an out is an out. I'd rather a have a guy put the ball in play, than strikeout. I have not said that i think strike outs is an important stat.

Correlation Data for Strikeouts

And I'm so sorry for calling you out for being too lazy to read my post at all before you posted the first thing that came to your mind. But if you are going to reply to my post in such a condescending manner I will always do so.

It isn't even a question of careful reading. You quoted two statements that both made it clear that I was talking about frequency not totals and still managed to assume that I was talking about counting stats.

And I continue to see a problem with the statement that people who strike out alot are usually less disciplined hitters because it is just not true. The long term data absolutely cannot support that claim.

guys with better range get to more balls thus increasing their chances to make errors

which is still only a small percentage of balls compared to someone with less range

i truly believe it's the RBI and it's not really close.

Wins are way up there, but I still think it's better than RBIs
