This kid was in a no-win situation from the beginning. If he goes to the authorities with this way back when, he's probably in the same spot he is in today- hiding and being protected.
Hell no he wasn't. The only reason Penn St. tards are freaking out is because this involves their football and Joe Pa. Sandusky was already retired so if McQueary goes to the cops immediately it mostly takes Joe Pa out of the equation. Their fanbase wouldn't care if a retired assistant coach went to jail. If anything he'd be looked at as a hero.

if he had stopped it in progress and called the cops they would have built a statue of him.

That is definitely the way he should have gone. If he waits until the next day and talks to the cops, he's fricked. They wouldn't believe him and would wonder why he didn't stop it, etc. But, if he calls 911, describes the whole thing in progress and bumrushes Sandusky in the process, it takes a monster coverup to ignore McQueary with the whole thing likely being recorded.

I'm not defending his actions (or, rather inactions) but all of this McQueary focus it taking away from much bigger things at play here.
I have thought this. I have a buddy he was a GA then restricted earnings coach in college (not at a Penn State level). McQueary was screwed. Wonder how old he was at that time? Total no win situation. He was in a dream situation I assume to be a GA at Penn State has to be a tough gig to land, and a long line of guys waiting to take your spot.
HTown is right. This takes away from the story. You can't judge the man in his mid 30's who is WR coach at PSU now. He WAS just a mid 20's guy caught in an "OH frick" moment. I like to think I would handle it better, but I don't know. Mid 20's in my DREAM job I may have just not wanted to rock the boat, and when he told superiors he thought his hands were washed.

It is very difficult to imagine that he could not summon the courage to intervene. At the very least coaches emeriti should not be engaging in sexual activity in the locker room with anyone.
I am reminded of a scene in Full Metal Jacket where R. Lee Ermey asks Matthew Modine "Why aren't you stomping his guts out?" I would ask the same of McQueary.
McQueary should have acted forcefully, if need be, and stopped what he witnessed in addition to calling the police. He would have had ample proof when they arrived.
I think that I would have opted for stomping his guts out.
It seems that everyone was focused on the value of the institution and not the values of the institution.

Don't know that he didn't. Also, I assume SAndusky would have freaked out and zipped up when caught. Muttering some sort of "Uh it's not what you think/looks like." type bullshite.
