Standing or kneeling for the national anthem has nothing to do with supporting veterans.

Wrong, people under 40 don't care about baseball, it's an olds man game now, football took it over right at that point and it Americas game now. I might even say the NBA is more popular than MLB.

I went to the bar to watch that Indians game where they broke the records and the same night was the Bengal Thur nite vs HOuston game, there were 3 tables there watching the TRIBE and 40 Tables watching a regular season Bengals games.....it's no contest.

In fact one of the guys I was sitting with is about 23 YO, I had to explain the rules of baseball to him because he didn't know them. When I was in elementary school there wasn't a kid who didn't play baseball.

Total revenue for Major League Baseball in 2016 approached $10 billion dollars, and represented a half-billion dollar increase over 2015. That rate of growth should continue in 2017, putting MLB in position to eclipse the 11-figure revenue mark.

To summarize the state of those ratings, it’s great. 16 of the 29 MLB franchises in the United States of America ranked in the top three of their local television markets across all networks last season. The ratings also represented a one percent growth from 2015. It’s that kind of growth and performance that will keep broadcasters paying a premium. It will also spur new corporate sponsorships.

Now, to reality. The average MLB team is worth $1.54 billion, 19% more than one year ago (to see the impact on the Forbes SportsMoney Index, click here). Values were driven higher by new local television deals that are increasing at roughly a two-fold rate, surging profitability, and the escalating value of Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the Internet and technology arm of MLB.

The St. Louis Cardinals' deal with Fox Sports Midwest, signed in 2015, begins next season and is worth $1 billion through 2032. In 2016, the Cincinnati Reds signed an extension with Fox Sports Ohio through 2032 that comes with an equity stake in the RSN and is worth more than twice as much as the previous contract. The Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals should all be inking more valuable cable pacts over the next couple of years.

Baseball and softball combined to rank as the most participated team sport in 2016, according to the annual report by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, a leader in sports participation research.

Equally important from baseball’s perspective, the sport showed growth in both casual and core participation over one-, three- and five-year periods at a time when the trends in other team sports are less encouraging, said Tom Cove, the president and CEO of SFIA.

blah blah , link link... fact is the youth of the country don't care. I haven't met a young (age wise) a die hard baseball fan in a decade, football fans are a dime a dozen.

Try it out, try talking baseball with people and they'll be like I dunno I don't watch it. Talk football college or pro and you'll be chatting for long time.

Yeah lets just disregard facts and go off ones biases. That definitely works.

I know a ton of people that love baseball, and they arent 40+.

But if players kneeling makes a person that angry and they are watching at home they should be able to take two minutes out of their day to stop, sing the song, and salute the flag. (as long as it's actually aired on TV)

I was taught to not salute indoors unless reporting to an officer.

Most don't realize players stayed in the locker room for the anthem up until 2009. Then the Government paid the NFL to have them out to increase people joining the military. This Rah, rah, American Flag, Military stuff at games has only been done recently and it was done as a business decision for the armed services.

I don't know why this isn't talked about more.

It's almost as bad of a look as the Breast Cancer Awareness (Wear Pink) month that the nfl parades around.
