Virginia won the ACC Coastal Division today, which marks an important milestone in division history.

Not only can all seven teams in the Coastal Division say that they won it at some point, they were all very polite and passed the title around--each team has won the division in the last seven years!

2013: Duke
2014: Georgia Tech
2015: North Carolina
2016: Virginia Tech
2017: Miami
2018: Pittsburgh
2019: Virginia

Some other fun trivia: The last five of those teams have played or will play Clemson in the title game. If you go back to 2009, Georgia Tech defeated Clemson in the title game, meaning that Duke is the only team in the Coastal Division that won't have faced Clemson (yet) in the title game. (They faced Florida State.)

Four teams have won the Atlantic division: Florida State, Wake Forest, Boston College, and of course, Clemson. The only three teams not to make it to the title game are N.C. State, Louisville, and Syracuse, and in fairness to the latter two, they've only had 6 and 7 years to try, respectively. N.C. State does have a bunch of ACC titles, but none more recent than 1979.

The ACC Championship game started when I was a sophomore at UM. We were excited that Miami might play Florida State twice a season since they were in opposite divisions and could meet again in December.

15 years later, it still hasn't happened, and I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The coastal division is the definition of balanced and mediocrity.

NC State should be embarrassed. There was an entire decade 2001-2010 or so where neither Clemson nor FSU were much to write home about, and the pack had Philip Rivers along with some of their best teams in a while.

I was very struck by this when I heard it last night. That is some balance.

I wonder how many divisions have been won by every team in general. To get it done in consecutive years is awesome.

The sacrificial lamb for Clemson must be a shared responsibility.

Even Wake Forest won and made it to the Orange Bowl. Whipped FSU at home earlier in the season.

As a Clemson fan, having a different opponent makes it interesting and worth attending the game after making it this many years in a row.
