Good call, Med was chewing him up coming in on the slices.

Some scratchy play in the breaker and something up with Thiem's foot.

I actually thought he was faking a foot injury to get a breather here and there but it's legit.

It's not his game. He's not great at net and usually wins 99% of the time without having to come in. Curious to see what he does here in the 3rd.

It's one thing for Rafa to never miss with his spin rate, but I don't know how Daniil can do this for 4-5 hours with his flat shots. He's like a damn 6'6 Murray.

Thiem fought hard, but pretty abysmal effort for Medvedev not to take at least a set in this match. I feel like he should be ahead.

He was up a break in the 2nd and 3rd and lost both in a tiebreak?

"He should have won the 2nd and 3rd sets" - McEnroe just now

That was a pretty riveting three set match. Just punishing rallies. It felt like Med was going to take over at a few points, but Thiem just showed a ton of grit. Med was starting to carve some sick angles at the end.

People have this idea that having a lead in sports means you should win 100% of the time. Why even play up to 6? Might as well call it as soon as someone breaks.

Now if Med was up a break against Damir Dzumhur and lost in a TB, maybe you could argue that he "should have" won the set. But this is high-level tennis against animals who don't like to lose a single point. Nothing is a given, ever.

ETA: Awww your fav lost. Boo frickin hoo

That was pretty poor from Meddy tonight, but I give credit to Thiem for playing some pretty insane defense throughout. You could tell Meddy was frustrated and really didn't know what to do. Kinda reminded me a bit of the Rafa v. Novak 2013 US Open Final where Rafa kept getting that extra ball back and frustrated TF outta Nole.

I expect Thiem to beat Zverev pretty easily but we'll see.
