If you think Khabib is a boring fighter, MMA just isn't for you.

how ridiculous of me to correlate Mg when the title of the thread is "UFC 229: Khabib Nurmagomedov (c) vs Conor McGregor"

that said, I hope Melvin doesn't do anything stupid to ruin his bare knuckle boxing debut in like a month or so

Most knowledgeable and factually supported post in the thread gets downvoted. Khabib dong riders are out in force. Gonna be a great fight to watch.

He got the mount on Dennis Siver. Are we supposed to be impressed with his ground game now?

I think they were supporting you, I should have spelled his name out in this particular thread.

Do what makes you happy.

That dope mount was silky as hell though. Conor isn't clueless on the ground despite the "Conor cant grapple!!11" narrative people love to parrot.

Did any of y'all see Matt Hughes talk with Dana White before the press conference? Holy shite I didn't realize he was in that bad of shape. Was really hard too watch.

There’s a huge chasm between merely being a competent mma grappler and khabib’s level. It would be silly to think he could catch his striking up to the level of Conor’s, but you don’t see anyone making that claim. No nut hugging is taking place with khabib, just recognition that Conor could likely devote all his time to grappling and still never catch up with khabib, based on time in alone. Conor is hugely talented, this is no knock on him, just reality. He is capable of proving me wrong, it’s just super unlikely.

He's definitely not clueless on the ground, but Khabib is on a different level.

Showing me a clip of him getting the mount on Dennis Siver, who isn't even defending against it, doesn't prove anything.

ETA:

Khabib isn't afraid to stand with Conor. Look at this gif.

Standing with Conor would be a horrible idea.. Michael Johnson clipped Khabib in the first, and Conor hits a lot harder.. very hard fight to pick, can't wait

You can never count Conor out, but his cardio is an issue.

That's Conor on top of a guy who isn't great at grappling. It was a great move on top to get into full mount but that position isn't going to happen unless Conor rocks Khabib and looks to finish him up on the ground. From what we've seen with Conor on his back it has not been impressive. Now the question is can Khabib get Conor on his back without getting popped or having to shoot from a mile away where it's easy to avoid the takedown. Distance control is the biggest thing for Conor in this fight.

He whole thing. He said he thinks the whole Connor wind thing is overblown, I agree, also said he knows how khabib is prepping. That’s the important part.

Absolutely.

I think we’re all on the same page. I wasn’t trying to suggest Conor was anywhere close to being an elite level grappler like Khabib. Just that he’s not completely clueless on the ground like I hear so much from people who just casually follow the sport. Same way Khabib isn’t just a walking heavy bag standing up like some Mcgregor fanbois think.

It’s an awesome matchup with contrasting styles and it’s gonna be really interesting to see how it plays out. Hard to bet against wrestling though...
