Good question....have they talked about fighting each other? Rory would probably have to change classes out of respect if that problem arises.

One would change camps and they'd fight, unless RM isn't serious about being the champion.

davis already beat gustaffson. why whould the fight again? hendo/gustaffson makes more sense. let davis fight badar

Gustaffson was embarassed by Davis, who finished him in the 1st round via anaconda choke.

Meanwhile, Davis lost to the current #1 contender and former LHW champion in a decision.

Also, Gustaffson hasn't beaten any top 10 ranked opponents. He also just had a very weak win in which he refused to engage his opponent in the final round. No way he deserves a title shot over Davis. He's third in line IMO, behind Hendo and Davis.

With that said, I think Davis would need to beat someone like Bader (good suggestion) before being given the title shot.

Gustaffson should have to win two more fights (preferably in the next 6-8 months) before getting a shot. I'd like to see him beat a mid-tier veteran (ex: Lil Nog, or the winner of Griffin/Ortiz), then close out the year against a top tier veteran like Shogun or Machida.

If he does that, and Bones is still retaining the belt by early 2013, give Gustaf the title shot then. Trust me, he could use the extra year to develop anyway.

The loss to Evans drops Davis behind Gustaffson IMO. Since losing against Davis, AG has won 5 straight. All against very tough competition. He's the hot fighter, Davis looked lost, confused, and was out classed in his last performance.

I agree with this. It'd be nice to see Gustaffson beat a wrestler before fighting for the title, but he's the hot name right now. One more tune-up fight, and he should get the title shot against either JJ, Shadface, or Hendo. If Shad wins on Saturday, you'd think it might be Gustaffson/Machida for the #1 contender? If JJ wins, I don't know who he'd fight. Probably just reaching with Machida, but I'd love to see that rematch....

Yall are talking crazy. I bet you supported Mark Hunt's title shot too.

But seriously, before Gustaf gets a title shot this year he should AT LEAST beat Davis in a rematch first.

Machida has nothing to offer right now. He's been put unconscious in his last 2 title fights. Following an embarrassing loss with a win shouldn't equal a title shot. That's my issue with both Machida and Davis.

Normally I would agree with you but this is a weak division.

Besides, an "embarrassing loss" is getting choked out in the first round, not losing a decision to a #1 contender.

There a plenty of fights that can be made with out making rematches. I have no clue why MMA fans always want rematches. By that logic, Jon Jones still needs to avenge his loss to Hamill before he can be considered the champ. Also, Rashad should have to beat Machida before he gets his shot. Gustaffson is sky rocketing up the rankings after his last few fights . Davis took a huge nose dive after the Rashad fight. IMO AG is above Davis.

No, Davis was completely embarrassed and out classed. Did you even watch the fight??

I agree with everything you're saying, and I know machida was a stretch.

Obviously a lot can happen between now and then (JJ/Shad might get an automatic rematch if something crazy, close, controversial happens), but if Hendo does get the next title shot, and Gustaffson does fight for the #1 spot next....who should it be against?

ten bucks they bring Hendo out after the Jones/Rashad fight into the cage. this used to be the most stacked division. isn't rua facing jackson coming up for his last fight?

Fixed it****

Anyone who doesn't think all five of those fighters are a tough fight is a complete jack arse. Please stay out of MMA threads. You are only making us dumber by having to read the ridiculous shite you post. Save your self the embarrassment and us the brain cells and head back to The Rant.

I'm going to ignore your unnecessary empty shite talking for a second and correct you on something. I never said those weren't tough fighters. Every UFC fighter is tough. I was responding to the assertion that those were 5 "very tough" fights, which they weren't relative to the resumes of other LHW contenders.

If you think Gustaf's strength of schedule has been "very tough" in the grand scheme of the UFC, you need to check yourself. Here are the Fight Matrix rankings of those fighters:

quote:

21. Thiago Silva
31. Vladimir Matyushenko
20. Matt Hamill
36. James Te-Huna
48. Cyrille Diabaté

But you know, don't let facts get in the way or anything.

Oh, and for comparison purposes, here are the rankings of the last five opponents Phil Davis beat:

quote:

12. Antônio Rogério Nogueira
9. Tim Boetsch (MW)
46. Rodney Wallace
9. Alexander Gustaffson
11. Brian Stann (MW)

When you consider average rank of opponents PLUS the fact that Davis already demolished Gustaf's pasty arse, you have no argument.

Dana has already confirmed that if Bones retains the title, Hendo is next in line.

This is looking doubtful. Rampage may not even fight in the UFC again this year. Serious mental issues right now.
