Probably bc Miami was scheduling Florida State, Penn St, Notre Dame, etc on top of their Big East schedule.

Miami played Notre Dame once in the 90s, and they weren't in the Big East at that time.They played Penn State three times, and only one of those teams was good. I'll give you Florida State.

Miami played Notre Dame 10/20/1990 and didn't play them again until 2010. They didn't join the Big East until 1991 and left in 2003. They were independent the only time they played Notre Dame in the 90s and they were ACC by the time they played Notre Dame again. Miami never played Notre Dame as members of the Big East.
