no doubt

if the NCAA were serious about cracking down on rule violations, Tressel should be fired immediately, period. But, the NCAA is not serious, they will continue to be half-assed when it comes to violations and pick and choose when to really crack down.

Indecisiveness?

Ongoing email and telephone conversations for atleast 3 months telling him his players violating NCAA rules. Yeah, nothing blatant there!

This is a joke, Tressel lied and covered up. The NCAA needs to lay down the law.

I put the OP before the e-mails were let out. If they are real (which they might not be, of course), Tressel should be fired.

Well, they still have to do an investigation and have a punishment hearing and all that. With that being said, we should find out what will happen to Tressel in about 2 months when they rule on Bruce Pearl. If Tressel receives anything less than what Pearl does, the SEC should leave the NCAA.

Those e-mails are pretty damning if they are legit. He had all the information he needed and then some and still did nothing.

College football is out of control.

Yeah, reading those totally changed my perception of the situation. If those are true, his arse needs to get gone. I feel like the NCAA investigation is gonna make the punishment worse now.

These emails were discovered by the OSU legal counsel and that's what brought this whole issue up, if I'm not mistaken. My last business law lecture before finals is tomorrow and my lecturer works on that counsel. It would be ballin' if touched on this whole issue.

It is hard to figure out which makes Tressel look worse:

#1 He goes on & on at the press conference about how he was asked to keep this info 'confidential' but that wasn't requested until the 2nd email 2 weeks later.

#2 Tressel expects us to think that a request of confidentiality from a random attorney trumps NCAA rules and his contract.

#3 Even after the schools was talking publicly about all of this crap in December, and there was no conceivable reason any longer for confidentiality, Tressel still kept the April emails a secret and they were later discovered by another OSU employee who was doing work for the appeal of the players' suspensions.

Tressel is a liar. In his bones, he is a woefully dishonest man. Ohio State is a joke until they fire him.

You're high as shite. He tried handling the situation on his own by not saying a damn word or turning in any of the players so they could play the entire season.

Ok,

No one here knows for sure exactly what happened, good or bad. What if Tressel also got a call from the attorney saying to keep it confidential. People still use the telephone.

As I said I have no idea and neither does anyone on this board. From the press conference (I haven't read the emails which to me are still not confirmed as the actual ones since they are still evidence in an open case as Smith said last night), it seemed that he handled the situation poorly at the least.

I'm not defending his actions but I am saying that I believe those emails are fake (as I said i haven't read them) and that there is a lot more info that may/may not come out.

Unless Tressell was informed to keep it under wraps by the police he is contractually obligated to inform OSU and the NCAA of the violation.

At best OSU's entire 2010 season will be vacated because the players were involved in this earlier. Tressell is going to face stiffer fines and penalties due to lying to the NCAA. He could have said in December that he was informed of this earlier but due to an ongoing police investigation he was not allowed to speak of it. He didn't, so now what you have is a statement from OSU and Tressell that is completely self serving. I personall believe Tressell is going to be made example of because this is one thing the NCAA doesn't like.

He has no legal contract with that attorney. He has a legal contract with OSU and de facto the NCAA.

I love this... an 'attorney' says please keep a secret and we act like he has some obligation to do so. Unbelievable.

Edit: If the e-mails are real, he deserves to be FIRED, and I think it's possible the NCAA investigation will lead to it.

I applaud your sense of fair-play
