Cases can be made for both, Mariota was more consistent longer than VY in their respective college careers and his TD/INT ratio at Oregon was literally absurd. Mariota won the Heisman Trophy, VY won a natl title. Judging strictly based off the numbers, Mariota's clearly the better QB/player of the 2.

would take VY over Mariotta mainly because of the intangibles he brings.

I agree, but it is also worth mentioning that VY had a lot more talent on his teams than Mariota.

USC's defense that year was far from stacked. It was bad. Plus by the time the NC game came around we had so many injuries we had hurt freshman playing. Christ, we had the Ting Brothers playing D for us. That is the opposite of stacked. Stacked was our '08 D.

17 NFL draft picks comprised that USC defensive unit

I read somewhere they were on the team as a favor to their Dad who was some big alum booster.

And weren't they on the field during Young's last drive...and one of them could have easily intercepted Young's last pass and ended the game but just swats it away????

USC did some dumb shite in that game and played maybe their worst and still should have won on 4th and 2.

I can agree with this..... yet his performance alone in the title game against USC puts him over the top for me... wasn't he like 22 for 300 and like almost 300 yards???? He was incredible that game..... he had way more WOW plays than both Tebow or Marriota

That's the problem with you... you use strictly numbers.... that's not the whole story when deciding a better player.... there is not ANY game in college that Mariotta had that comes close to the back to back performances that VY had in the Rose Bowl.....

Young:

30/40 - 267 passing

19 - 200 rushing

Leinart:

29/40 - 365 passing

White/Bush - 206 rushing

So Young almost equaled the combined totals of two Heisman trophy winners and Lendale White.

One game does not a 50 of last 50 years player make, otherwise people would argue that Timmy Smith is a top all-time pro running back based off Super Bowl XXII only without looking at all the evidence. Can also apply to Larry Brown of the Cowboys based off Super Bowl XXX. It's patently illogical.

I guess you could say, USC was really frickin good afterall - considering they almost won against a performance for the ages by Young.

Easily the best college football bowl performance we've ever seen.

And he had a pretty epic preview the year before against Michigan.

Tebow contributed immensely to 2 natl championship squads and was named first team all-America for the 2008 title squad.

Gotta review all the evidence mayne: VY submitted a spectacular season in 05 running and throwing. The two preceding seasons however, he was underwhelming throwing the football and threw almost as many INTs as TDs. For all his 3 seasons at Oregon, Mariota was frighteningly proficient as a QB:
2012: 32-6 TD/INT ratio, 69% completion
2013: 31-4, 64%
2014: 42-4, 68%

I chalked VY's natl title up but that's attributed to one great season, Mariota had 3 incredibly proficient seasons so he possessed the longevity, stats and accolades which VY lacked. Also, titles aren't the only factor in determining how great player is, they're relevant but not the ultimate adjudicator. As far as I'm concerned no criteria in determining who's greater exists.

I knew you were gonna bring up the title argument.... Tebow was THE factor in 2008. He played some in 2006. That team could have won the title even if he didn't play a down... so just stop... you seem like the type that if it fits YOUR agenda it's cool, but will never look outside the box... and VY had two really good seasons and finished them both off with an awesome performance in both...

Ok just for giggles (since you talk so much about SOS). Let's compare both teams schedules the years they played. VY vs. Marriota. Again I am giving you a chance to prove me wrong using your logic...

Yeah 05 Texas played the 23rd ranked SOS and the 14 Oregon team played the 9th ranked
