but does a safety count as a turnover and if not why not?

Don't know. But LSU had a snap sail over the punter's head and result in a TD and it was not considered a turnover.

DB, J. Taylor intercepted a pass on 4th down, causing a loss of about 40 yards for LSU compared to if he had just run away from the ball. Yet, he got a turnover that hurt his team.

saw a similar play a few years ago in the NFL i think....rookie CB intercepted a pass on 4th down and did not advance. his coach then challenged the int and won...they got the ball from the previous spot, and not where he int'ed it

took away a turnover, but it was an easy choice IMO
