I was watching that as a kid with my dad. Not being a fan of either team at all, I still think it's one of the greatest moments that I've ever witnessed in sports. I mean dude could barely walk to the plate. Unbelievable.

The picture of Van Slyke sitting in CF after that run scores just sums up that game for the Pirates.

Can anyone tell me why MLB is so Hitler with highlights? I can't even find stuff from last years postseason. It's like they locked everything in a safe.

I was sitting on the edge of my sofa at home watching that game. When Gibson hit that shot, I yelled so loud, my wife came running out the bedroom it scared her so.

This play tops the Fisk homer due to the fact that Gibson wasn't even expected to play in the game.

His leg was so badly damaged that when the Dodgers won Game 7 of the NLCS, manager Tom Lasorda refused to let Gibson run to the mound for the celebration after the final out, fearing he'd injury his leg further.

And he was the unquestionable heart and soul of the team - the Dodgers about to lose Game 1 - Gibson out all series with two injured knees.

In the bottom of the 9th inning of game 1 in Dodger Stadium, with 2 outs and a runner on 1st, Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda asked the hitting coach if Gibson would be able to pinch hit.

Noted sportscaster Bob Costas tells how he could hear Gibson taking practice swings at a ball that was set up on a tee. He tells how with each swing he could hear Gibson cry out in pain.

As he's in the Dodgers' dugout, he hears the injured Gibson taking his hacks in the adjacent batting cage before hitting coach Ben Hines walks past him, going to report to manager Tommy Lasorda.

"Like in a B movie … ," Costas says, "Hines passes Lasorda and says, 'He says he thinks he's got one good swing in him.'

"And I'm thinking, who's writing this script?"

Plus the Dodgers won the Series unlike the Red Sox.

That home run changed the entire series and frankly propelled the weak line-up Dodgers to an improbably WS triumph.

Van Slyke slagging Bonds... there's something new. Pirates sure made the right call re-signing Van Slyke instead of Bonds. The guy needs to shut up.
