In an obvious attempt to get them to jump needs to end. I get doing it from a believable yard line but I’ve noticed a lot of teams doing it lately from a yard line no one remotely believes you’re going to do it and all you end up doing is burning a timeout. Hell, your odds are probably better of getting it by catching them off guard and actually going for it than drawing them offsides..

I don't get why they don't just take the delay of game instead of the timeout.

Sure it's 5 yards but it's a penalty that won't extend a drive or change any momentum

The thing is, defenses still bite on it enough that if you're not in a short clock situation it's worth it.

This reminded me of how Jordan Jefferson was randomly really good at the hard count.

Do they though ? A lot of the ones I’ve seen lately they don’t even remotely flinch. Florida tried one today that no one believed they were actually going to go for on their own 35...in the first quarter.

I have zero doubt that if Florida had actually lined up for the fake and used a hard count that we would have jumped. Zero.

Brees and Payton used to do it with success all the time.

I’m not against attempting it, I’m against doing it in situations where it’s beyond obvious there’s no threat of you actually going for it

Agree that they should take the penalty if the D fails to jump. It's just field position if you're punting anyway.

Teams need to snap the ball once in a while so it's believable.

I'm fine with it if they just take the delay of game. Burning the timeout is beyond idiotic.

Taking the TO is definitely dumb. What also pisses me off is when they just lineup, and the QB doesn't even try the hard count, just goes back and forth

It used to work all the time even in the NFL but in the last three years or so everybody got really disciplined in not biting as much.
