Just curious, What do you have to do to a hard court on a daily basis to prevent cracking or bubbling? I understand you might have to do some repairs if there is cracking, but what is done to prevent it?

I feel like that depends a lot on the integrity of the underlying surface.

You can file this under the heading "Small Sample Size Anecdotes", but the city courts in the tennis mecca I grew up in were split into two. You had the upper courts and the lower courts.* The upper courts were magnificent. Barely a crack in them at all. The lower courts were a focking mess. Like, classic trailor park tennis court effect with cracks everywhere and weeds sprouting up and shite. And yet they were separated by 15 feet.

So, from that limited observation I extrapolate my conclusion that the resurfacing of hard courts -- which is actually a relatively cheap and simple process --is not even half the battle in determining whether the courts are gonna go to shite in a year.

*The reason for this, surprisingly enough, is due to the fact that the upper courts were on top of a big mound and thus a good bit higher up than the lower courts.

ETA: upper courts on left. I guess you're gonna just have to take my word for it on the elevation difference part. :)

Nice win for Tennys.

The rankings definitely start to get tougher to climb when you get around that top 50 mark. If Tennys loses in the quarters here, he will move up a whopping two spots in the rankings to 54.

Hard courts require constant maintainence every year or so to keep from cracking or bubbling

I see now that I overlooked this post, which is what the other fella was probably responding to.

I'll just echo his sentiments that if there's such a thing as hard-court maintenance, it's news to me. The process that I know is:

1. resurface courts
2. wait till cracks get too numerous and gaping to be tolerated
3. repeat step 1

Just saw an interview Pella after his win over Sam. Seems like an awesome dude.

Big dick Nick up now.

This match is ridic. Nick decided late in the first that he didn't want to take a break on a changeover and got angry when Fratangelo wasn't ready to immediately play. He lost the first, then started playing at warp speed like he wanted to get out of there (five seconds between service points) and now he's destroying Fratangelo. Brett Haber says he's never seen a crowd this confused.

I’m not sure what he’s doing in Houston in the first place. Why would you skip Monte Carlo with all the missing/injured players on tour right now?

He was being weird tonight. When Fratangelo launched a ball out of the stadium in frustration, the next game while serving Kyrigos has three balls in his hand and then decides to make a big deal out of not having enough balls to choose from. I really don't like his personality tbh.

Bunk:

Remember how I mentioned Kyrgios like four or five years ago, and then you saw him play in a junior final or something. Was that you, or am I thinking of somebody else. I believe it was you, but I've been wrong once or twice before.

Anyway, I recall you saying iit was the worst pro (or junior pro, perhaps) tennis match you'd ever seen. Was it that bad Could you see the potential at all, or no?

Whoah! He's skipping Monte Carlo? That's just madness. No, really, that makes negative sense. I have nothing to offer up on that one.

Not only that, he’s skipping Barcelona after MC and playing another random 250 in Portugal the week after that.

This was PBC (pre bayou cracka), but I found the full quote from Bunk.

“I wish I had more of a takeaway from Kyrgios. It was one of the worst performances I have seen from a pro, so bad that we were apologizing to the tennis newbie women with us because almost every point ended after three shots. I looked for any flash of brilliance I could. He's a big kid and probably moves well under different conditions (healthy, on a hard court). I couldn't tell if the match was ugly because: (A) he is 18, (B) he just goes for broke, or (C) if he did so because he was hurt (Aussie papers said he may have pulled a hammy). Anyway, as bad as it was, I'm still glad I was on the court because it was a cool place to view a match, and Kyrgios may be a star one day (plus, Cilic is just a good consistent vet to study).”

Apparently Bunk went to RG and took some really nice pics that don’t show up on the site anymore. You still have those posted anywhere on the web, Bunk?

Good memory, my friend. I think that was the first match I attended at RG a few years ago. Knowing what I know now about Nick, I might have thought he was having a meltdown that day. At the time, though, he just looked a bit lethargic and I was surprised he couldn't sustain a 10 shot rally. But, he was 18, and playing on clay against a very solid player. I think he was also a bit tired or injured from his previous round. The talent level wasn't that clear at the time.

I'm glad I saw the match, though. My brother wondered why the frick I dragged him onto that court. A year later, Nick beat Nadal at Wimbledon and Cilic won the US Open. So, we were able to see two studs up close on a side court who would soon hit their stride. I'll try to dig out the photos for the RG thread. My brother had a great camera with him to get those pics.

I know I keep psychoanalyzing Nick, but after watching his interview with Gimelstob, I think he is just super ADD. Gimelstob could barely get out his questions before Nick would cut him off with some short answer. The only thing he seemed interested in talking about was basketball. He straight up admitted to Gimelstob that when he gets in an impatient cranky mood like last night, he DGAF if he wins or loses. He is going to play short points, hurry between points, and quickly get off the court.

I’d be cautious if you’re referencing a prior username. They might ban you for being an “alter”, which could start an excruciatingly sillly cycle of future bans and new usernames.

Not that I would know anything about that. Heard from a friend,

That’s interesting that the players stay at local rich people’s houses for this tourney. I wonder how that works practically. I’d be raiding the funk outta dat fridge, yo. All yogurt would be mine.

I don't remember if he got to the finals or whatever a year or two ago, but this chick who had something to do with the tournament was going on and on about Verdasco in the presentation and I figured for sure he banged her all week. Rafa chills out at Larry Ellison's in IW, I think.

Yeah, he stays with LE, but I think it’s in a standalone guest house. I

That could be situation with the Houston peeps, but I sorta doubt it.

Definitely Verdasco got his smash on. 100%.

Verdasco's wife, Ana Boyer, travels with him. She is a very beautiful woman.
