The Nets at #3

Why are people not projecting the Nets to select Wes Johnson. If they don't get Lebron all the other big FAs are SGs or big men. Plus if they end up getting Lebron he could play well with Johnson. Johnson could be a great spot up shooter for Lebron to kick it out to.
Thoughts?

wes would be a solid pick up for them

I've seen some mocks going with Johnson, but Favors would pair with Lopez to make a pretty solid front court if he lives up to the hype.

he would be a nice pick...then get David Lee in FA and that team will win be top 2 in the East next season

yea I REALLY want Favors. The Nets haven't had any swagga since K-Mart left

It really wasn't a knock on Favors.
They could sign Stoudemire, Bosh, Lee, and Boozer as a FA if they wanted to pair a guy with Lopez.
I was just thinking that Lebron is the only big name guy at SF.

I was joking about the top 2 in the East
but I never really thought that much about Wes as the Nets pick. My mind has been all on Favors. I might actually like Johnson/Lee over FA (SG or SF)/Favors now that I think about it

I think taking either Favors or Cousins just gives them a lot of young versatility in the front court with Yi, Lopez, and either of the two. When you look at three of the four teams left at this point, their front courts are a lot of the reason why they're still in it.
If you go the LeBron route, that gives you a backcourt of Lee, Harris, LeBron with Terrance Williams on the bench and Yi/Lopez/etc. That's a pretty sick lineup, just need a few roleplayers. I'm not too sure about their cap situation, but I've read a few things about them going after two big free agents. If that's the case, if they ended up getting another higher tier guy in the backcourt that's a top 3 team in the east right there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Russian package a player and an insane amount of cash for that #1 pick. Any hope of landing Bron went with that pick.

I was just thinking that the draft is before free agency. So if they go Wes Johnson and miss on Lebron then they have
PG- Harris
SG- Lee or possible FAs Wade(not likely), Jo Johnson, or Rudy Gay
SF- Wes Johnson
PF- Yi or possible FAs Lee, Boozer, Bosh, or Stoudemire
C- Lopez
If they do grab Lebron then you can rotate him to SG. I was also thinking Wes would be a solid pick because of the jump shot combined with the athleticism. IMO there is no way the Nets don't sign a FA in the front court with cap space and they definitely will if they miss on Lebron.

You think LeBron will play for that weird arse Russian.. Dude creeps the frick out of me. He might be the scariest Russian since Ivan Drago.

The Russian is REEYAAACHHH BEYOCCCHHH.
Also who knows what he really knows about basketball. He claims to be addicted to it. Lebron could probably work him more than Danny Ferry and Mike Brown.

I think they lost out on Lebron by not getting #1, but they are still in a great position to get damn good quickly.
Between a rookie and money for 2 near max players, they could get a big time SG, SF, and PF to go with Harris and Lopez.
If they drafted Favors, they could probably get Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay. If they drafted Wes Johnson, they could get some combination of Joe/Rudy and Lee/Stoudemire/Boozer. Any way they go, they're in great shape.

I don't see Wesley Johnson as an upgrade over Terrance Williams. Just as I don't see LeBron closing all doors because they didn't get the number one pick. Also, it's pretty evident you can't trust Yi to be healthy all season long so the needs there for a four. Not a big fan of Boozer or Lee and their revolving door attempts at defense.
The Nets have a LOT of young really good pieces in place. Definately more than the bulls IMO. Adding another elite front court prospect would make it even more appealing. Only thing really lacking at that point is a three guy.

they're different players. T-Will is too small to play the 3 and Wes would fit in nicely there.

I really like Lee, he would be beastly with Brookers down low

that's #1 on their list I hope

The problem with Lee is he's in the running for the worst defending four in the league. So then you have a soft Yi, who flashes potential and then gets hurt and reverts back to his usual self, and David Lee who may play worst defense then Yi. Add their defensive abilities together and still probably don't have anything serviceable.
I just find it real hard to see an arguement where the Nets take Johnson over Favors/Cousins unless they got Bosh. Neglecting the draft is well before FA, Wesley's ceiling still doesn't compare.

My point was there are several big PF available in free agency. They also don't know if they get Lebron.
If they miss on Lebron they will definitely sign a big PF. So I would think it would make more sense to take Johnson as he could still play with Lebron if he did come.

Definately not making my posts contingent on LeBron going there or not. Just so happens that there's two elite backcourt players in the draft, and Nets are drafting at no 3.
Favors is a bigtime player. The only FA PF I'd think would be worth passing over him for is Bosh and maybe Amare. That's a pretty big risk in drafting a player with a much lower ceiling dependant on something which is going to happen a month later.
