Where do people get the idea that the Pettys had all this money?it's not like they were rich when Lee started racing.

They weren't rich per say, but they had more money than all of the other owners in NASCAR at the time, thus why they ran 60 races a year and everyone else ran around half of that.

If the Wood Brothers had had the $$$ of the Petty's, Pearson would of won 300 races and 8-10 titles.

Keikhofer had way more money than anyone when he had a fleet of Hudson's winning everything in the early to mid 50s.
As for running more races, that's how it was in those days. If you could make 3-4 races a week, you had a better chance at the title. That's how Benny Parsons won his title in the early 70s. You just had to be willing to hit the road constantly.

ETA The Wood Brothers CHOSE to concentrate on the big track/big money races. They could have run 60 races a year if they had chosen to.

Fair.

But that was as much on Pearson as it was them.

But to say the Petty's didn't have $$$ is being disingenuous.

Lee was a mechanic before he started racing. How did he get more money than everyone else, as you say? He wasn't the only guy winning races in his era.

We still have Gordon(almost the exact same type of wreck) and Newman due to his sacrifice.

Ya think they'd be open to a trade?
