Bo was in KC with the Royals well on his way to great feats in baseball (all-star, potential HR titles, gold glove, maaaaybe HOF, etc.), yet he still had the want and talent to be a similar type star in football.

My question is this/these: if Bo knew he still wanted to play two sports, why didn't his agent reach out to the Chiefs about Bo joining their organization? Similarly, was there no one in the Chiefs FO that thought just maaaaaybe since the guy playing CF over there in Kaufmann was a former NUMBER 1 OVERALL draft pick a couple years before, just maybe we should reach out to him???

Was KC stocked full at RB? Were all their eggs in Christian Okoye's basket??? Bo could have been a GOD in KC, if he wasn't already. Not to mention, it probably would have been a lot easier to split duty playing in the same city. I just don't get how it didn't pan out that way.

Anyway, another thing that ocurred to me after watching the 30f30... Vincent Jackson is a HIGHLY intelligent man of principles. I tip my cap to that dude

I thought it was because the Raiders offered him a chance to only play half the season?

I'm familiar with the NFL draft. Do you even know who drafted Bo?

I think he does.

You see, Tampa drafted him, but Bo was pissed over them lying to him about a possible NCAA violation and also the fact that they didn't want him to play baseball.

Tampa gave up its rights to Bo and the Raiders drafted him the next year.

Riiiiight, and they drafted him because he said he would sign with them. That exact conversation and turn of events could have played itself out exactly the same way for the Chiefs. He essentially told the Raiders they could draft him because ge would sign with them.

I think it's the other way around.

LA took him in the 7th round with the hopes that they could get him to play football too. Al Davis talked him into it. I'm sure by conceding that baseball would come first.

LA took a chance. They figured having Jackson some of the time was better than none of the time. I guess the Chiefs didn't want to take that chance....

Maybe.

The way I understood his re-telling of it in the doc. was that there were teams interested. He said if one was Tampa Bay then there was no way he would play for them. His agent said the Raiders were interested and that piqued Bo's curiosity to the level that he would sign with them. Then Davis took him in the 7th round (best 7th round pick ever?).

I suppose if the Chiefs had reached out to him with similar terms then Bo would have been more than content to sign with them considering it was already "home".

This is dumb.

Raiders drafted him because Al Davis was Al Davis and was always trying to outsmart everyone and thought he could convince anyone to do anything.

Raiders owned Bo's rights.

So sorry Chiefs.

There was no conversation beforehand. Raiders took a long time to convince Bo they could make it work for half a season.

But really - Davis was just taking a flier...and wanted Bo's rights.

I wouldn't say it took them a "long time" to convince him to play considering they drafted him in 87 and he was playing football asap in 87. Bo was chomping at the bit, obviously, to prove he was the best in both sports. He didn 't talk about it... he wanted to prove it on the field.

The Chiefs blew it. KC should have taken him when he was right under their wing. Hell, bring him over for a workout, ask if he would be interested in playing, take him in any round before the Raiders, boom, got yourselves a stud RB in his prime.

"Dumb" was the mentality of the Chiefs FO.

Hands down.

Can you imagine a RB being taken first overall now? That says it all.

He would have been a GOD in Kansas City, Missouri.

You only own the rights through the next draft. If you don't sign him, you don't keep the rights.

Obviously.

Why would you think otherwise?

How in the hell do you think the Raiders got to draft him?

Bo went back in the draft after the Bucs failed to sign.

I agree bo was one of the greatest athletes ever, but the fact that he was taken first overall as a runningback doesn't say anything

After QB, RBs are the most common position picked as #1 overall, but since Bo only one has been taken in that slot

That means priorities in the nfl changed, not that there hasn't been guys that would have been worthy if they were being drafted back in that time

Before Bo, 21 RBs taken
#1 overall.

Introduction of the west coast offense

1 RB taken overall since

Just a switch in the thinking and drafting strategy

And Bo, in his part time hobby, proved to be better than the Hall of Famer that he shared the backfield with.

Think about that, Bo was only playing half a season, without even training for football. And yet, he was better than the Hall of Fame running back that he was sharing the backfield with. Marcus Allen was not over the hill at that point in his career.
