The blatant manipulation of rankings is concerning and bad for football

Not even referring to the Ohio State/LSU situation, although that is a can of worms itself. Setting up rankings so that certain situations magically resolve themselves the following weekend and make your job easier the next week is not a criteria for creating a good ranking system. The shitty subjectivity of all of this pisses me off to no end. Bring back computers to do the rankings and let the chips fall where they may. Too much influence from TV ratings, etc for the majority of people to be okay with this system. Feels bad man.

I agree but the people in power don't like the idea of power being taken away. I'd even rather the ap decide. At least they have way more people voting.

remove SOS, eye test and quality loss/win BS, and score doesnt matter so a 1 point win is the same as a 99 point win
and they dont need computers during the season either
everything gets earned on the field so if ball state beats #4 bamas then ball state gets bama #4 ranking and bama gets whatever ball state was ranked or not ranked as

This is what you wanted to replace the BCS despite knowing it would be a shitshow.

I don't know why everyone acted cool with a committee making the rankings to begin with. Did people really think a committee had been brought together in place of the BCS rankings to be MORE transparent. I mean wtf did you think the plan was?

The thing is, the CFP rankings are pretty close to the Massey Composite. So if computers did the rankings, more people would be pissed because Wisconsin and ND would be ranked higher, and Baylor lower. But the rest would be the same.

And this is exactly what LSU fans wanted after Bama got the rematch.

The minute you put a bunch of people in a room with the pressure of sponsors and ESPN to "make good television" is when you have a recipe for disaster and blatant week by week manipulation to "create" enticing matchups the next week.
You just can't have basically a monopoly on CFB like ESPN and then put a bunch of people in a room.
The one saving grace before this playoffs and the bullshite computers and bullshite BCS was you just had random sportswriters across the country who voted independently of some system or Star Chamber.
80 sportswriters weren't in collusion to manipulate the polls every week like this playoff committee.

I can't believe how many people are just now realizing the committee is a problematic way of determining who plays in a four team playoff.

If you can find 11 teams in college football that can beat Alabama, I'll kiss your feet.
Other than that, it's probably not too far off. Maybe 1 or 2 spots off per team.

Mike Slive proposed BCS expansion to 4 in 2008 but only the ACC commish (Swofford?) supported him. So we got stuck with this instead.

The BCS is a good formula. There just needed to be a playoff to determine the champion. Get rid of the committee and let the BCS decide the top 4.

computers can be manipulated too, it's as simple as powerful men sitting in a room together and deciding to change some numbers. It isn't hard with a functional backspace button on a keyboard. They can make up any of this shite as they go, giving more weight to this or that. At the end of the day they typically get the best 4 teams in there, and the best team has come out on top every time so far.

I think people were cool with a playoff and having a committee evaluate small issues as they arise but I don’t think people anticipated the amount of subjectivity that is going into it and just HOW MUCH influence the committee ultimately ended up with.

Honestly if I were Bama I'd schedule exclusively cupcakes at home, you will always have cocksuckers making judgements on the "eye test" and their brand

These rankings are almost identical to the mock BCS standings.

The BCS is not the end all be all, I say make a new algorithm.

Until it agrees with what you think it should be?
