Mccutchen is either gonna flounder in the future like Maybin or flourish into a less powerful Matt Kemp.
He's the same age and better than Maybin, so I'm not sure I follow that comparison.

Melky and BJ Upton are other CFs that are in their prime years that will be out there.
Not sure we'd be willing to give Melky another shot though...

They definitely have gone full retard a lot of times before. Although, they locked up McCutchen earlier this offseason to a deal that will have him there through 2018. Knowing that, I'm not sure there is anything we can wave in front of their face that would tempt them to trade him.
Probably not. But, I think the braves do have to try something. We've gone too many seasons now with great pitching and hitting holding us back. The window of opportunity will close eventually and I feel we're just not trying.
Here's some guys we could sign as a FA:
Andre Ethier---He has been inconsistent, but is a solid fielder and good LH bat. However, the dodgers may sign extend him soon. They are desperate for bats like us.
Mark Reynolds---I believe his contract is up too. He hits a lot of HRs, but his average is fricking awful. Hit below .200 in '10, but still posted 32 HRs. I want to avoid this guy. One Uggla is enough
Nick Swisher---My favorite of the available F/A for the money. However, he is gonna want longevity and I would be leary of offering this guy anything more than a 3 year deal. MAYBE 4, but that's tough
melky---no, just no. But i guess if we have to.
Upton---MEH.
Guys we might be able to trade for: (some of these are crazy, but hell I'm not a GM for a reason)
Adam Jones----I think he is really gonna blossom into a star CF. I wish he could steal more bases, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Baltimore deal him.
Corey Hart----If the Brew crew sinks, they may be willing to deal. I don't know. I'm not that high on Hart, but he's better than nothing.
Michael Cuddyer----I like Cuddyer and he has a good arm. The Rockies may be able to deal him if their season goes REALLY south.
Justin Morneau----If he's the Morneau of old, that's a great bat in the lineup and the twins may dump him for very little. However, either Freeman or Morneau will have to move to LF. I'm not sure how good that will be, if it's even possible.
Paul Konerko----I'd be willing to bet this guy has 3 more seasons in him like last year's season. Again, Freeman would have to try out LF, but having his bat in the lineup would be fricking HUGE. Not gonna happen though.
CF is a very thin market and so is 3B right now. The Braves may have to sign Bourn or go with an unproven guy or has been free agent for cheap. If they do that, then they'll need a solid bat. I think dealing for Jones would be best, though he strikes out a ton too.

yeah, I thought that after I posted it.
I guess I meant that Mccutchen could either blossom to a .275+ hitter with 30 HRs/30 SBS or he could flounder at .240-.250 with 20 HRs.

It is definitely going to be interesting to see what we do.
I ultimately think we sign Swisher and trade for a guy like Bourjos or a younger guy in AAA like Marte or Wheeler.

Melky is one of like 5 guys under 28 with 800 hits.
He's severely underrated now that he's not fat and shitty.

If the angels let go of Bourjos, I'd be happy. i think he still has time to develop into a much better hitter. However, I doubt they let go of him.
I'm not the biggest fan of Wheeler, but I do like Marte. I just have a bad taste in my mouth from the last Marte the Braves thought was going to be a star.
I'll tell you an exciting team to watch is going to be the Dodgers. The new ownership over there may be willing to splurge. Having Kemp and Kershaw to build around is great, plus they have a decent SS in Gordon.

Melky might be playing himself out of our price range right now.

Yeah, I'm still pissed that he was so lousy here.

Freeman named NL Player of the Week.

It really would have changed a lot. Not even going back to when we dealt him two years ago, if he had played decently, we likely re-sign him for at least a year.
If he does for us what he did for the Royals last year, we don't need Bourn, and we're likely looking at the deadline at adding a thumper rather than a CF. Further, we're likely talking with him about a longer term extension to be our CF from this year to the next half decade of his prime...
Sigh...

When I was looking at the numbers earlier of Capusno against the Braves, I figured Wilson was gonna get another start. Him and Diaz have hit him well.
Posted on 4/23/12 at 5:06 pm to SwampDonks
I knew Diaz would start...lefty pitcher and he has good numbers against him, I get that
Wilson hasn't hit anyone well in years. This is three straight starts for him. If anything, you're hurting Pastornicky's confidence.
It's like Fredi is trying to force Wren in calling up Simmons in June
