He's definitely been very unlucky, so I'd give him a few more starts to turn it around myself. A 55% LOB % is horribly low, and his HR % is going to drop to his normal 8-10 % range I'm sure.

My only concern with Minor and his stats is he seems to be a pitcher of the Javy Vasquez mold that underperforms compared to his FIP. Minor has had this habit a bit both in the minors and majors.

Hit .296 in 162 at bats as a starting infielder.

Yeah, he was primarily a position player in college though right? Just starting pitching a little bit his last year?

I think it's nearly impossible to say what his true upside will be since he had very little pitching experience before getting picked up by the Braves.

I'm with you guys though, ready to extend him after the season, he's a bulldog of a pitcher.

I think we'll be fine.

Fredi has actually done a reasonably good job of distributing the bullpen workload. I still think going with Durbin in close games is a disaster waiting to happen, but for the most part Fredi has done a much better job this season. It's mid-May and a flowchart really hasn't developed.

Fredi's done a good job this year. He's made some inexplicable decisions, but he's improved this year

Agreed, he has cut down on the inexplicable and retarded decisions immensely. We need Durbin off the roster because he's a time bomb waiting to explode, but Fredi has managed the bullpen well this year overall.

God I love me some Beachy

If I'm Wren, I'm signing him to a long term deal this offseason while we probably have extra money lying around.

Give him the MadBum contract.

Yeah y'all aren't really playing a lot of close games are you? Guess that's allowing Fredi to use the likes of Livan Herandez, et. al. That's a good thing early in the season for sure. Keep the back of the bullpen from wearing down.

Anyways, all in all, we've got a solid club, as we've all known. But there are still holes. In all likelihood, we're going to have to deal for pitching IMO. It's either grab someone or rely on Minor or JJ to get it together, or give Teheran a spin? None of those seem like "lead you to the playoffs" type of options, IMO.

Lineups later.

TRADE FOR BMAC. Give the A's a few arms like JR Graham and a lower level prospect and nab him. Then we can decide whether to sign him or let him go at the end of the year.

This would be ideal after this season if he keeps it up.

I'd be down.

I would like to sign a few guys to some front loaded contracts if they would be willing, which I don't see why they wouldn't.

Spend the money now while we will have some, and save a little money during 2015 and 2016 when most of our young guys will be in their last years of arbitration or becoming free agents.

Yep, getting Beachy, Freddie, and Jason signed to these deals that cover their first 1-2 years of FA would be ideal, particularly if we can throw in decent option years like the Giants did with Bumgardner.

I think Beachy would sign for 6 years/37M, maybe a little more

2013 - 4.5M
2014 - 5.5M
2015 - 6.5M
2016 - 6.5M
2017 - 7M
2018 - 7M
2019 - 11M option
2020 - 12M option

Right now, it would be around..

2013 - .75M
2014 - 4ishM
2015 - 7ishM
2016 - 11ishM
2017 - FA

The key to any deal we give Beachy would be to save money in 2015-2016.

MAKE IT HAPPEN FRANK

He's going to be 26 in September. If I were the Braves I'd shoot for 4 years then you can work out another deal in 2016 if he's still pitching well (or deal him, depending on the how the club is at the time) or let him walk as a 30 year-old in FA and say thanks for the service.

That contract structure would be pretty ideal Swamp, take him through his early 30s and give us the option of bailing around 32.

He's only in his second year though, not really much point in just going up to FA, might as well just go year to year if that's all we are getting, it would average out about the same and give us way less risk.

The one positive with Beachy as far as signing him long term goes is that he has almost zero mileage on his arm since he's only been pitching a 4-5 years period.

I like the idea of signing him through 32 and going from there. If he's really great, you work on an extension somewhere in there. If he's just solid, you worry about it when it comes up. 32 is kinda the tail end of peak, but if he's truly great, then his "non peak" will still be amazing and worth paying for.

But that's a lot of speculating.

Yep, he still needs to keep cruising through this season before we'd even need to consider it.
