Screw chipper. Id be happy if I never saw him at turner field again.
Posted on 10/8/13 at 12:14 pm to hiltacular
What I'm saying though is that the entire team idolized Chipper last year, he picks against them in a series and all of the sudden everybody hates him.

That's the kind of two faced bullshite you expect from women
Posted on 10/8/13 at 12:21 pm to Broski
A) It was stupid for Chipper to pick against us, even if that's what he believed. He had to know the ramifications.
B) It's stupid for us to be all bitchy about it. Use it as motivation.

The reason people are upset with Fredi is his perceived lack of a sense of urgency. I think both managers were awful in this series, but Dodgers fans woke up happy with Donnie because he didn't stand pat: he used Kershaw yesterday. Fredi just did the same thing all year, and it almost worked, despite him making a series of bad decisions.
No one can convince me that leaving Garcia in for six innings to face the heart of that order three times was smart. It was also wrong to leave Uggla off for Constanza. It was wrong in my opinion to play Elliot instead of Uggla. Etc.

I go back and forth on the Uggla thing.
Uggla, even god awful Uggla, is still better than Johnson from a total value perspective. If you try and logically say it was a decision made for defense, then why are you starting Gattis in LF?
But, maybe there's something we don't know? Maybe Uggla can't fricking see and the team docs know it. Maybe they knew he was mired in such a deep slump he'd be worthless regardless. We aren't privy to that type of info. and they certainly won't make it public.
That said, you can somewhat punch a hole in that theory because Uggla himself said he was "blindsided" by being left off the roster. But Uggla seems hesitant to accept that he had eye problems, so maybe he's just being obtuse.

Giving my thoughts on the Chipper matter.
1) He's still a contributing member of this team in some ways. He was actively at the ballpark throughout the year throwing first pitches, taking in games, talking to players, giving advice.. why would you go on air in Atlanta and say what you said?
2) He played with the majority of that roster last year and made brothers and friends along that ride.. did he believe last years roster could win it all or was he just there for his curtain call?
3) You just don't do this on 680 in ATL the day you are going to the park to throw the first pitch. Atlanta looks up to you and if you aren't loyal to your brothers and your franchise for the media then don't show up to the park expecting to be greeted like a brother/friend.

I'm not sure if you just don't watch the games and randomly picked a blind narrative to follow or if you hold a grudge for whatever reason against Heyward

Mound visit timing bothered me throughout the entire series. You have to be proactive in the playoffs. Visiting the mound, calming your pitcher down, and having someone loose in the pen is a requirement. We refused to pull a pitcher until damage was beyond fixable. There wasn't any leadership shown from Fredi Gonzalez when we needed it in this series. He looked lost.

That's the problem imo. It would be different if this happened 5 years down the road and 90% of these guys aren't former teammates.

Yeah I think there has to be something else to it. But I'd rather have seen Phil Gosselin on the roster than Constanza.
And I wish someone would let Fredi know what a small sample size is. He trusted Elliot Johnson 100 or whatever ABs with the Braves over what got him cut by the Royals. If Freddy Garcia's 3 2/3, 8 run performance that he had in his only start with Gwinnett had happened with the big club, he might not have made the start.

It could just be Fredi's motivational technique to remain calm in these situations, but when you add looking calm to the rest of his traits, you get a guy who looks lost

He thought the Dodgers would win. He appeared first on NBC Radio to make his picks. I'm sure he didn't want to contradict himself on local radio. I don't think he did it to hurt anyone's feelings. He just gave his opinion. The guys in the locker room should have used it as motivation, but acting like pouty kids just looks bad. No reason to hold it against him.
Posted on 10/8/13 at 12:41 pm to NorthGAVol
Exactly. If you aren't active with the franchise I don't see it as a big deal but Chipper is pretty damn active.

I wonder if the team was at all pissed he helped LaRoche

He's paid to be an analyst at NBC. He should give his honest opinion.
It probably would have been smart to "lie" on local radio, but he didn't so it's whatever.
