Yeah but unrealistic with our payroll limitations and without giving up the farm on an already limited system.

We just have to bank on one of the younger guys turning into that ace.

I get that, but $4 mil for a 4.48 career era is absurd.

Looks like we're looking at Teheran being that guy.

Pretty good deal for a guy that was a 4 win pitcher just a couple seasons ago and not really "old" yet.

If he gets back to pitching like he did from 2009-2011, we got a steal.

I love the "can't give up the farm" line

The farm has paid off so well in the last decade and a half

his best season was 2008. 17-8 3.84 era, 1.26 whip

lol

career 70-70 4.48 era, 1.338 whip, 9 h/9, 3 BB/9, 7.1 K/9

$4 mil for an average 5th starter.

Sure has. Imagine where this team would be if it weren't for our homegrown talent. Sure as hell wouldn't have had the success we've had in recent years.

$4MM is a bargain for a fifth starter, hence the possible $4.5MM in incentives.

The Braves were never trading for an ace, and all the free agents out there were too costly, especially in terms of years.

It's a fine deal for Atlanta. I mean, we started Freddy Garcia against Clayton Kershaw in a playoff elimination game last year

Wait till Whitie drops some FIP knowledge up in this bitch. And never underestimate a guy moving to the NL.

Only part I don't like is it's a guy coming off TJ. But that's not as big of a deal as it used to be.

I don't care about ERA.

He was worth 4.2 wins in 2009. 4.0 in 2010. 3.4 in 2011. fWAR for those amounts. bWar has him a little lower.

Those are his three most valuable years. The generally accepted theory is that you pay 5.5 mil a win, which at his peak means he's a 15mil type of player.

If he looks more like 2008 or 2012, he's worth 10mil a season.

ERA+ of 119, 116, 105 and then right at league average the last couple of seasons.

It's a bargain deal, if he's healthy.

we can't always count on scrubs pitching the game of their lives.

we overpaid for shite players in Uggla and BJ, obviously some hindsight speaking here, but I just don't like this. we just hoping Julio turns into an ace? what if that doesn't happen? yea, he's shown some glimpses of being an ace, but he's also shown glimpses of being complete shite.

People will bitch about the Braves pitching and the lack of an ace even though the Braves will be close to the league lead in ERA despite spending virtually nothing on pitching.

I was saying we need insurance to make sure Freddy Garcia never sees a baseball field again.

The Braves still won 96 games and were either first or second in ERA last year without an "ace."

Julio has the potential to be a top 5-10 pitcher in the game. He was pretty damn good post April last year, a top 15 pitcher in the NL. Minor was also a top 15 pitcher. And Medlen has been pitcher of the month 3 out of the last 8 months. And the Braves don't pay dick to any of them.

BJ was total shite last year, but he has a good chance of rebounding and being worth his contract overall. Uggla's contact...well, it'll be up before Jhey's free agency

We just avoided arbitration with Beachy for a third of the price of Gavin Floyd

agreed

I think Julio should have a huge year coming up.

Minor is pretty damn solid

Medlen is my favorite lesbian.

but who is after that? can beachy ever stay healthy for a full year? Alex Wood is still young but I like what I see so far.

I like Wood in the pen more. The who after that question is Gavin Floyd. Braves obviously had some concern

Since Floyd probably won't be ready, I'm hoping Wood puts a strong hold on the 5th spot. I'd like to see him in the rotation all year long... with an innings cap of course.
