DBacks shopping Gerardo Parra and Kubel.
I like both for different reasons, but it sucks they are both lefties.
Same with Ben Revere and Denard Span.

Span has been better against lefties than righties in his career. Higher BA, OBP, and OPS.

All have their positives and negatives.

I'm wondering what the price tag is going to be on some of these CFs. It's an interesting lot.
You have:
Bourn - speed and defense player with little power and a decent bat.
Pagan - speed and defense player with little power and a decent bat.
Upton - 5-tool talent that has maybe never become as good as everyone thought, but could be a legit 30/30 threat.
Victorino - May no longer be a CF and seems to have lost a step, but probably still has value to someone.
All of these guys have produced at high levels. All of them have hit major bottoms too. Upton is the only one with power, so I'm guessing he'll the biggest money, but he also has attitude and effort questions. Then again, he's also right in the middle of his prime, whereas the other three are on the backside of it.
It's going to be an interesting market and the 3 best teams in our division are all in on it.

Despite knowing that a change of scenery probably isn't going to have much of an effect on his attitude and approach to his job, I have convinced myself to join Team Upton.

Oh, I agree. He's probably the best player out of the lot. I'm not sure I buy Bourn as a 6 WAR player...

I think I remember hearing Olney say that Prado could command 4 yr 50 mil....this is worrisome, need to extend him ASAP

In terms of raw talent, it isn't even close. He's just a headcase. Sometimes a change of scenery really turns things around for guys like that, and sometimes they never really put it all together. If we do sign him, we need to hire Lou Brown to turn him into a true leadoff guy.
Bourn is at his peak right now I think. We aren't going to be able to afford him though, so I don't think it matters that much. We will make him an offer, but I doubt we seriously negotiate with him.

True that, although I would gladly take his production last year out of the leadoff spot.
Let's take a look at our different CF options. While we're on Span, I'll start with him.
Denard Span
*28 years old
*Owed $4.7M in 2013, $6.5M in 2014, and a $9M team option in 2015.
Now let's take a look at his last three years of WAR and UZR. I left out 2011 where he only played in 70 games.
The main thing that jumps out at you is his defensive capabilities. Easily a top 5 MLB defensive CF, and finished 3rd this year behind Bourn and Trout. If we were to lose Bourn, Span allows you to not miss much of a beat defensively, which can't really be said for most of the other guys. When you look at the oWAR, he still brings you very solid contributions at the top of a lineup.
One thing you want in a guy that will be hitting at the top of the lineup is the ability to put the ball in play as well as get on base. His K% over the last few years has sat around 11%, while Bourn struck out around 22% of the time last year. Had a .340 OBP last year which if duplicated, would play very well in front of Prado and Heyward.
Brings you some speed, which is always nice to have.
Hits lefties incredibly well for being left-handed. Actually hits them better than right-handers. Career .293 hitter against LH while it is .280 against RH.
As I said earlier, for his salary over the next two, maybe three years, I think his performance and style of play would fit this team incredibly well, while easily allowing the team the finances to pursue a power hitting corner outfielder. Not to mention that he'll still be in some of his prime years. He's my guy.
I'll go over Upton next.
