The Braves have set a player payroll budget of $94MM for this year, leaving them with several million dollars still to spend, chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk told Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. McGuirk also said that Liberty Media has expressed no intention of selling the club in the near future. Also of note is that the club is locked into a 25-year local TV deal that will prevent the franchise from cashing in on MLB’s trend toward higher telecast rights fees.

Sigh.

I wish they would sell the team to someone who actually cared about it. We deserve better than those worthless fricks.

I really hope Viz can get his changeup worked out.

I'd like to see him in the rotation after this year.

You guessing that Huddy and JJ are gone after this year?

Naw I think we take on Huddy's option. I don't believe JJ makes it past the deadline, though.

I guess looking at it we really won't have the room for Viz until Huddy is gone after 2013 and Minor is included in a trade, which I think he will be in the next couple years if Viz can get that extra pitch down.

Viz definitely has some work to do or he'll be in the pen for quite some time.

It's a bad problem to have when you have all these young guys.

“That being said, we inherited a deal that was done under [previous owner Turner Broadcasting/Time Warner] a little over four years ago, before the sale, that lasts out through 25 years. So there is no opportunity for a different deal than the one we have. Every single set of games on the different networks that we are seen on [Fox Sports South, SportSouth and Peachtree TV] are all 25-year deals or thereabouts.”

Great job Turner Broadcasting/Time Warner. 25-year deals are always the way to go.
