It was the one that Fred Lewis hit one-handed. A pop fly anywhere else.

Yeah. The ump called him safe. I'm going to side with the guy that was consistently inconsistently with his ball and strike calls against the Bravos all night. I think he was so hosed that the tag was early and he wiffed. 9 out 10 umps would have called Lugo out.

There will be some roster moves w/ McCann out and Chipper out.

I would think our priority of getting beltran and Pence remain the same. However if we got Byrd he would provide good balance

This would currently work just fine now that Uggla's coming around

Byrd
Prado
Chipper/ Heyward
Uggla
Freddie
Ross/chipper
Heyward/Ross
Gonzo

Then with Mac

Byrd
Prado
McCann
Uggla
Freddie
Chip
Heyward
Gonzo

Funny how looking through the threads from last night, I don't remember that many pirates fans on this board last year.

again, i'm watching every angle.. over and over and over.. i don't see how anyone can say 100% sure he tagged him.. it's not that clear cut.. am i blind? i promise i'm not being biased either.. it really looks like he's swiping air right infront of lugo's leg.

how am i the only one.. oh well..

The tag attempt itself was really pathetic.

It wouldn't shock me if he missed. I can't really tell. I think most of the people saying it was horrible just assume because the throw got in so soon he was obviously tagged.

Also, Lugo hardly reacts. You'd think if he knew he wasn't tagged, he'd scramble for the plate, but he just sorta stands up like "well, you got me."

My gut says he's out but it's not as clear and simple as most are making it out to be

If there was replay, the umps would have a damn hard time overturning the safe call based on the video there was

The Atlanta Braves are still involved in discussions with the Mets, but the Rangers and Giants are moving along in talks with New York.

When Beltran signed his seven-year, $119 million contract with the Mets in January 2005, it included a complete no-trade clause that requires him to give permission before the Mets deal him.

Sources said Wednesday that the Cleveland Indians offered to take on Beltran's entire salary for the rest of the year, but were told that the outfielder would not consider going to Cleveland. The Indians walked away from the talks convinced that Beltran's agent, Scott Boras, is in control of the process.

At least for now, the Boston Red Sox also are out of the Beltran sweepstakes, a league source told ESPNBoston.com's Joe McDonald.

Tuesday night's injury to Brian McCann paves the way for Carlos Beltran to be traded to the Braves for one of their top pitching prospects, writes ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

These days, teams are reluctant to give up their better prospects, and in the eyes of rival evaluators about Minor, the young left-hander is viewed as a middle-of-the-rotation starter -- either a No. 3 or a No. 4. He's not regarded as a No. 1-type talent, like Julio Teheran; Minor is regarded as a very good prospect. And if I were sitting in the Atlanta front office, I'd make the deal.

Like I said, I think a lot of it is confirmation bias... "Throw was early... tagging motion made, must be out!"

DOB:

quote:

While McCann injury has to add some urgency to #Braves' need for another bat via trade, Beltran didn't sound likely from conversation that I had with Scott Boras last night. Not that agent knows all details in a trade situation, but he indicated other teams were more serious suitors for Beltran, who has full trade-veto rights and wants to go to team that will help him on a couple of fronts Beltran obviously wants to win World Series, and putting up lot more power numbers along the way before free agency is also a factor Also, Beltran prefers to play RF, doesn't want to DH. So that narrows the field. #Braves need him, but don't seem like best fit, is my take

AT&T Park yields less HRs than any other ballpark this year

can't really think of who needs a RF besides Boston though. ATL is set there with Heyward. SF has Schierholtz in right, Torres is staying in center and you have to have a place for Cody Ross.

if Corey Hart wasn't in RF i could see him being a great fit for MIL.

perfect fit would be to trade him to Phillies for Brown and a pitching prospect.

DOB also said with Mccann + Schafer injuries, players that were too pricey may not be anymore.

Translation: Pence

Joel Sherman just said that Phillies/Giants are Beltran's top choices, and he'd have to be convinced to join Braves/Rangers. With his full no-trade clause, he can call the shots.

I don't get his logic here. Okay, the Phillies I get... Best staff in baseball... and a lineup that could use a jumpstart.

But the Braves/Giants are basically mirror images of one another... lackluster offense... strong pitching... why would he prefer the Giants to the Braves? I don't get that. I guess just because they won the WS last year.
