Hope you're right about Martin.2 out of 3 of them working out would be good.

Snit put Ñ in LF knowing we’d need his arm on that play.

I like Melancon as closer. He’s definitely the best we got at the deadline IMO

Yep.

I didn't get any indication from watching him that the 9th inning blowup over the weekend would be the norm for him. I stand by my statement after his first outing or two that he looks like a closer to me, and I'm still excited to have him finishing off games.

Martin has looked fine as well for the most part.

Not much to say about Greene that hasn't already been said, but I will say that he likely should have gotten out of the 8th inning unscathed if not for Charlie botching that tailor-made double play. Oh well, you have to be able to overcome that shite as a relief pitcher.

I definitely think our bullpen is considerably better than it was earlier in the summer. That game Saturday night just came at the wrong time as it capitalized on the fanbase already being worked up into a frenzy regarding bullpen performance.

The thing about bullpens is that they often swing wildly in performance within the same year. Outside of a handful of dominant lockdown guys the bullpen guys are like roller coasters. Just have to hope that you have 2-3 guys that are hot at the right time (i.e. the post-season).

I still can't figure out what it is that Greene is supposed to do well though. Everything about his stuff just looks meh which combined with when his control is off is just a disaster.

you aren't a fan of the cutter to a LH batter that starts off on the outside part of the plate and cuts to the dead center of the plate? what's wrong with you? lol

exactly. but unfortunately the fans were already in a snarky mood when that game happened on Saturday.

I can count at least 10 times this year where fans (on this site, twitter, etc) claimed that such and such loss was the absolute worst loss of the season and would likely signal the downturn into mediocrity, yet every time they come back and string several wins together. It's amusing to witness.

Its a very very very small sample size, but Melancon is extremely unlucky so far

4.2 IP
7.71 ERA
0.86 FIP
13.50 K/9
1.93 BB/9
.462 BABIP
42.9 LOB%

He's had quite a few groundballs just out of reach or misplayed.

His 9th inning appearance last week had 2 double play balls back to back that were just out of reach. There was 1 out and the game would've been ended.

That was when Shane came in and it was a save appearance and he blew it.
