The ATL Thread 7/3: Cubs @ Braves

Let's talk Grienke.
There seems to be more and more talk everyday about the Braves interest in Grienke, and it has been reported that Grienke would like to pitch for Atlanta.
What would everyone here be willing to give up? Would you be willing to sign him to a long-term deal? would you trade for him if we don't sign him to a long-term deal?
Bowman thinks that one of our young pitchers plus a hitting prospect would get the job done. The douchers at braves-nation proposed giving up Minor, Spruill, Terdoslavich, and JR Graham.
And for the record, if we signed Grienke to a deal at $20M per, that would leave roughly $10M to fill our starting spots in LF and CF if the payroll does not increase.
Everyone's opinion?
And by the way, game is at 6:10 and Jurrjens is on the hill against Volstad.

4 prospects for a rental? not happening.
How can you expect to predict the future? You can't ink him until after you trade for him. Still his option if he wants to stay in ATL.

Obviously, you can't sign him to a deal. But there are ways to tell if he would be willing to sign long term or not.

If we KNEW we could get an extension, then any of our prospects, IMO.
Since we don't know, I'm a little more measured.
I will say, I think Greinke would like pitching in a town more like ATL and he's one of the few pros that would probably take less money for an environment he's comfortable in.

They don't have much leverage, because they lose him at year's end regardless.

I think we could get him slightly cheaper. Not much, but a few mil saved would help us fill out the rest of the lineup.

I'm just saying, the wording of your question is odd.
I understand that. Giants didn't move for Beltran last year until they knew he would at least entertain an offer in the offseason.
I think Greinke is a real good fit for you guys. Give up a good starter and a decent hitter for him. I could see him signing with y'all. Chipper's money will help.

I'll have to think about that one for a while. We are in a shitty situation as far as money goes. Beachy going down with TJ surgery really hurt.

I'm on the fence as well.
I have no problem giving up what we would need to give up.
And I think it would be a great move for the next two years.
After that, a contract that large is a scary thing to think about when you are starting to have to lockdown Heyward and Freeman and Beachy.
But, I still probably do it without much hesitance. I'm always under the thought process that things will work themselves out

I just hope Bethancourt starts hitting something other than singles before 2014.
Not that I want a ton of offensive production from the catcher position, but the dude only has four extra base hits all year. FOUR.

The good thing is, he's only 28, so you are at least paying for those prime years, and unless he pulls a Lincecum and falls off the planet, he's likely to be very good to elite for the next 5-7 years.
If he was 31/32, I'd be a little more leery.
Also, I'm wondering if Bourn's perceived value is higher than what he will actually command. It's hard to see anyone shelling out even 10 mil per for a guy with a career OPS+ at 91.
I'm trying to think of a player comparison here... but can you think of a speedster/defender without power that gets paid huge money? I can't really.

I mean, 3 years ago, McCann was the new Chipper.
Now, he probably needs to go to a hitter-friendly park and play some DH to reclaim some value to his career.
