What if he's just not good enough?

John McEnroe appeared on Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, talking about why doubles matches aren't as good or important as singles matches. At some point, Kimmel brought up a question about who would win between him and Serena Williams, who is currently trying to achieve a calendar Grand Slam, and who McEnroe has practiced with on a tennis court before.

Of course, McEnroe said he would defeat her:

McEnroe: "My daughters are over there. I think it's mixed, they think I'd probably lose to Serena. I believe that I could still take her."

Kimmel: "You do? And why hasn't this happened?"

M: "Fifteen years ago, Donald Trump, who seems to be in the news a little b--"

K: "He's going to be our president soon." [audience laughs]

M: "Gonna be our president in about a year. He made an offer, which, you know I felt, like, was not enough, and I think he was humoring the two of us. And Serena - she's got a lot to lose by losing to an old fart like myself. And I got a lot to lose, because if I lose to, God forbid, a woman, then I'm not allowed in any men's locker room for the next 15 years, or possibly the end of my life. So that's part of why it's intriguing."

Serena would smoke McEnroe. I watch him play on the Powershares series sometimes. He still has great hands and is a mercurial shot maker but he's 56 years old for God's sake. I think if Serena took the match seriously and played her best she could even win 6-0, 6-0. She would overpower him.

I always love this subject. Thread on another board seems to be about 70/30 that Mac would own her, even now. I might have gone with John at 50 (even with Serena at 27), but not now. The hands/touch never go away. The wheels do after 35. John seems stiff as a board. To be fair, I would feel way differently if it were Ivanovic, not the GOAT female athlete.

The opinion I have formed from hearing all kinds of different opinions through the years is the top 300 men would pound her. Others feel it is the top 1000. I don't go that far. I would love to see lsupride87 v Serena.

I'd take Johnny Mac over Serena.

Yeah I've seen him play a couple times this year. He's slowed down a lot. The level of play on the senior tour is not very high to be honest. They are really just exhibitions to promote tennis. I also think younger guys like Roddick and Blake hold back a little bit against McEnroe out of respect. I agree maybe 10 years ago it might have been an interesting match against Serena but nowadays McEnroe looks like an old man out on the court.

Fed rolled through Lopez. Novak/Dolgo and Murray/Fed set for tomorrow. Sock tweeted yesterday how ridic Fed was and Lopez just told him he's flying around, quicker than ever.

Maybe this guy is on some secret sauce.

Fed looked great again today. As a matter of fact, he's looked great all year. Tomorrow will be his 8th final of the year with him being 4-3, with all 3 losses to Djoker. Pretty amazing year for a 34 year old.

Fed was looking really good yesterday. Getting to everything and really frustrating Murray.

Hoping Fed can keep up this play. I always feel like once a couple of shanks show up it goes downhill from there.

Fed played great today. Interesting hearing him talk post-match how he was able to play more aggressively and attack players second serves throughout this entire tournament due in part to the surface and the balls being used in this tournament. He pointed out that he could do certain things today against Djoker that he couldn't do against him at Indian Wells because it's a completely different hard court. When asked whether or not he would continue with the charging on 2nd serve returns at the open, he noted he wasn't sure given the surface in NY is a little different than at Cincy and they will be playing with slower balls.

He just beat the #2 and #1 players in the world without being broken (did he even face a break point in those matches?). Damn impressive tournament for Fed.

Yet Serena is seen by some as the greatest ever in the literally worst era of women's tennis

I already told this guy he was an FBR, but in case he didn't take my word for it, here is actual quantifiable evidence that backs both my statements about the strength of the era and my statements that Taurus is a full blown.
