It was kinda a backhanded compliment.

Speith was complimenting Scottie for not caring about being a superstar like most in his position and, instead, caring about trying to be a normal guy with a normal family life off the course.

This.

It's clearly a balance that Jordan has not worked out yet.

it really wasn't. Listen to Scheffler's post-tournament press conference. He talks about just wanting to go to Chipotle and which one he can go to and not be recognized. He talks about just hanging out with his BIL and their kids while their wives are out and playing with them in the backyard. He make a point to be a golfer when he's preparing to golf and being a normal dad when he's not doing that. Scheffler very clearly does not like nor care about being in the spotlight like most superstar athletes do. Hell, I remember after his first major, he went to some dive bar with his buddies to celebrate. I feel like for the longest time he was still driving the same car he drioe in college. He's really just a low key guy who happens to be the best on the planet at his profession. And, for whatever reason, people are trying to make him out to be ungrateful and try to manipulate sound bites to create a story that just isn't there. Speith wasn't saying anything different from what Scottie is saying himself.

His comments Sunday were MUCH better than earlier in the week and make total sense.
