Coric with another 81% effort on 1st serve and dispatches Norrie in straights.
Poopydraws takes the 1st set breaker vs. Medvedev.

Summer of Borna?
I watched all of the first set, but missed the second. What is happening here? Tsitsi just got down early and threw the set?

Wow, Tsitsi had three BPs to get it back on serve and Medvedev was kind of melting. Going to a third.

Didn’t see it but looks like it was just a couple breaks at 30-40. Flip those 2 points and its probably 3-3 instead of 5-0.
That would have been some shite if Med lost a set from 5-0 up.
Something seems off with his serve. 2 aces today, 4 vs. Shapo, and he’s missing a ton of 1st serves.

Yeah, he is extremely wild. First serves are going four feet out.

Of course I passed on both and was leaning to the dogs.

I would be so salty if I had day session tickets thinking I get Medvedev/Tsitsipas and then you get nothing but the opportunity to fight for seats to see Norrie/Coric on the grandstand.
Nice tactics from Shitsypants. He took advantage of Medvedev's positioning by carving the backhand and with serve and volley.

Hope we see more of that at the Open when Rafa and Med are returning serve from the 3rd row. Nothing worse than watching these kids being totally afraid of the net.

Goodall and Courier say the faster serve is from building up back muscles, lighter racket, and lower string tension.

Did Shitface take a bathroom break between sets? I saw Coric lost the first 3 points in this set on serve but recovered.
He’s winning 86% of 1st serve pts again. Insanity.

Hard to tell from a quick Google search on my phone, but it looks like he started out with a Yonex, then possibly Wilson Blade, and now Wilson Ultra, although you never know for sure with paint jobs. I’m not a huge racket expert, but I know most Wilsons are generally heavy, or were in the past. The Ultra is 10.6 oz though, which is light.
The time off is something I wonder if a lot of pros could use, specifically for the things that you mentioned. Training/working out different muscles, trying new rackets, testing different strings/tensions. Not to mention the whole mental break. It has to be a ridiculous grind at some point.

When Coric bested Nadal, I chalked it up to him playing a little above his level and Rafa being rusty. The latter might be somewhat true, but the former was wrong: this guy can flat out play and beating Nadal (and the other guys he beat) was no fluke. I’ve been extremely impressed with the high quality of his game during this tournament, and the way he has been able to bring it consistently every match without his level dropping very much. Very impressive run.

Rafa was the only one to take a set off him

Borna is down to 25-1 at MGM, but that appears to be an anomaly. Barstool is at 45-1 and Fanduel and Caesars are 50-1.

Amazing what happens when you wait.
It will be tough even if he’s seeded. He won’t be able to sneak up on anyone, and the slower courts will weaken his effectiveness on serve.
That said, 50/1 is in the Murray/Korda range and almost has to be played for a small amount at least.

Courier was kind of trying to lump Cincy/US Open, Australia, and the Australian season all as fast compared to "slow, gritty" Indian Wells and Miami. But, I don't buy it. There are years, probably most, that Flushing Meadows is slower than the Masters series.
