There’s a lot of good shite in there. Thanks. I found it interesting that people were claiming (honestly, I believe) in 2014 that they were able to beat the markets, but whatever edge may have been there seems to have dried up since then.

Whenever I get the brilliant idea to build a model to beat tennis, I only need to pull up this work to instantly realize I have nowhere near the math skills to even make an attempt. Not to mention database knowledge and/or access to all of the data required.

They talked a little about live betting being potentially beatable, which would seem to make sense. It’s basically just an algorithm that uses historical data from previous matches to come up with odds on the fly. You would just need to find its weaknesses (easier said than done, of course).

For example, would an algorithm know that certain players are better at breaking back after being broken? Probably. Would it know that guys like Paire are more likely to tank a set when they get down a break or two? Maybe to some extent. What about things like extreme fatigue or injuries happening in real time? Definitely not.

I’m guessing there are people or groups currently beating the live-betting markets and we will hear about it at some point in the future.

Was gonna post about that big arse Italian ox making a lot of noise this lawn season, but he only has Wimbledon left on his schedule.

Not that I make rankings, but if I did I would have him #2 on grass right now.

Yeah, big serve and forehand is good enough to do a lot on grass. And his backhand is compact which is fine. All of that said, Norrie +280 is very tasty.

Rublev doing well in Germany.

Holy crap just noticed Norrie was +175 vs. Shapo. He’s been underrated for like 6 months now. Def a win-ugly type.

The courts for all these little grass court tournaments in Germany, England, and Mallorca are all in abnormally great condition it seems. They're playing slow and the ball is bouncing high and true. I just don't remember the ball bouncing so high on grass; maybe it's just been awhile.

Interesting. I didn't pay close attention, but I was thinking they were lightning quick. But, you know, a funny thing happens at Wimbledon where it slows down as the courts get beat up after a lot of play. Queens looked like it took average wear and tear. Halle was a dried out golf course. Mallorca is beautiful.

The grass in Mallorca looks thick and lush around the service line and pretty much all over the court except the baseline which is brown of course. Like it looks to me there wouldn't be much bounce but the ball is bouncing high and true. Maybe I'm just tripping. I'm enjoying the tennis though.

No, you're right. I'm watching right now. Simon and Ruud looks like hard court tennis. Maybe it's the tropical grass or something. Wimbledon changed their grass recipe in 2002 and the courts become slower.

Christ I took Mannarino over Thiem tomorrow thinking I was betting on a grass match, but it actually does look like a slow hard court in the Ruud highlights.

Will have to check out a Wimbledon qualies match tonight as a comparison.

ETA: Just watched Khachanov/Pouille for a few points and it looks a little more like grass with the bigger hitters. Ruud and Simon really do have zero pop on their shots.

Free qualies on YouTube. Bernie Tomic is still around apparently. Grass looks amazing there.

Here is the Olympic tennis draw. I'm not that excited, but 2 out of 3 sets is good. Nobody got time for five hour matches. Maybe I'll throw some cheddar on Rublev at like 22-1.
