I watched it. He looks better than he did in Dubai. He is very measured with his energy...totally unwilling to grind at all. If he gets down 0-30 he concedes the game. I think he might of even thrown the match at the end. I'm happy to see him out there but it's obvious he's only playing on clay to hit a few balls as a warm up for grass.

He should have skipped the dirt again this year

Serving first in the tiebreak shouldn't count as a "service game" in the sense that the other guy gets to serve in the opening game of the next set. There is no real advantage to serving first in the tiebreak. In fact, if serves hold the whole time, the guy who serves second will actually have a set point first.

Carrying this over from the RG thread.

The problem with that is the player who served first in the 1st set (which is an actual advantage) would also serve first in the 2nd set. Technically 1 player could serve first in every set of a 5-set match. I don’t know why they don’t just rotate it like in every other sport.

So, it's grass court season. The bosses were nice enough to hook me with a TV in my office, so I've watched a little action the last few days. Lots of 7-6, 7-5 type stuff out there. Maybe it's good that Wimbledon is a bit slower than these tuneups. Fed is playing FAA tomorrow in Halle.

Also, good starting point would be to go to google scholar and find the paper written by Barnett and Clarke about combining player probabilities of winning a given point as server or returner to arrive at a probability for that given server vs. that given returner. I think this was from 2005. It was a fairly seminal paper. There should be an option to find all the articles that cite that paper. It will be a fricking shitload.

Roger was garbage today in the last couple of sets. Doubt he makes the second week at Wimbledon.

It's really really hard to see him playing into next year. Everything is in decline; his skills, fitness, intensity. I think the US Open should be his last tournament based on his current form. His willingness to bear down and dig deep beyond 2 shots is almost nonexistent.

Yeah, maybe he a can pull off a great run in the Olympics, but I'd call it a career after the U.S. Open.

Dear lord, I had to turn off the Giorgi match. I don't need to be fapping in the office.

Advantage Djokovic. No way Federer gets through all of the young guys.

Nadal very likely wasn't beating Djokovic on this surface anyways, but yeah this certainly doesn't hurt his chances.

Djokovic may be the largest betting favorite in a slam in a long time.

Who can you see having any shot against Djoker? Tsitsi's strokes are too loopy and his return isn't great. Maybe Alex if he serves well, I guess. I might take a shot on Opelka, but I don't even see him on some betting sites. Shapo might not be a bad bet, but again, his strokes are a bit loopy.

Only way Djokovic doesn't win is if he just mentally doesn't have it. If he's disinterested. If he is super invested in winning the grand slam, he will win this tournament.
