What does this have to do with the XFL?

Gonna check it out tonight. Wanna hear him talk about the Fed match.

Just went to the live site to play around with rankings and realized that Jack Sock currently has 0 points, does not have a ranking right now. And missed out on some yesterday.

Fun listen-

Couple of takeaways-

5 set tennis is a different game than 3. Sets the men's game and men's slams apart from the women's game. Gives the top players more time and chances to finish matches.

Tennys said the biggest change with his new ranking is how many tournaments that he will have to play. Had to qualify into the French last year, and just barely got into Wimbledon with challenger points. Will have the chance to skip those weeks and will be able to rest/train.

Monfils beats Felix in Rotterdam. Felix gave it a good effort at the end, but was too far behind to get back in it.

Supposedly he went back to his old racket before or after AO and now he magically remembered how to play tennis.

Tennis is cool in that sense that there’s always something to strive for. Once you start winning Futures, the step up to Challengers probably feels like a big deal. Then when you start making ATP events, you can get enough money to hire a coach and enough ranking points to make it into bigger ATP events. Then the goal becomes getting seeded and managing your schedule better.

Which is fine until some teen goes from Futures to the top 20 in about a year and shits all over your progress

So what happens when a #433 ranked player gets a wildcard into a Tour level event and wins one match... you can jump #58 spots!

Ryan Harrison with a decent win yesterday at Delray Beach. A 2nd round win would jump him another 50 positions.

Has to be tough for these guys that are hanging around in their late 20's. Plenty of careers are over at this point, but the big three got another 10+ years out of their careers from that point.

Unranked Jack Sock (+150) has a chance to move up to #765 in the world with a win today. (That's crazy)

Tommy Paul has a match with Kygrios tonight, absolutely no way to know what Kygrios will show up at a 250 like this.

That's a pretty nice run right there!

Goes to show how much of it is about opportunity and taking advantage of it.

Alcaraz had 82 points before last night. Now he's at 127, and could pick up another 90 tomorrow vs. Coria. That would put him in the 200 range for ranking. His talent is undeniable of course, but a loss would have forced him to grind a lot harder to move up the rankings.

He looks like a clone of Khachanov to me. What's kinda scary is that his serve is not a weapon at all yet. He seems to be about 6'0 or 6'1. I'm curious to see how much taller he will get.

My rule is to never bet him as a favorite, with the possible exception of team-play events like ATP Cup and Davis Cup.

Not even sure the validity of this, but it's coming from a blue checkmark. novak addressing his lack of love.

quote:

A lot has been written about how I am not loved. I don't like to talk about myself, but my personal impression is that I have a lot of support and sympathy for me. When I play Federer or Nadal, the crowd supports them, but that doesn't mean that I am hated and that I should turn the whole Serbian public against the world. I don't like those stories of "Serbia against the world". And even if people don't love me anywhere, why would I want to add fuel to the fire? I don't want to put too much attention to it. I don't want to deal with or think about negative emotions, hatred, anger, etc.

Sometimes I get distracted, I have outbursts; it is the crowd, the umpire, the wind, etc. I admit that and I am not proud of it, but I am a human being who makes mistakes, and I try to become better every day. If I invest my energy in those stories that I am not loved, that story will keep growing, and why would I want that? Of course you always want for people to cheer for you, but I don't want that negativity, those are not the kind of flowers I want to grow in my garden.

I don't have a thing that I don't like about the guy, I just find his style of tennis to be pretty boring.
