Ok, my mistake I was going off of memory and confused Okie St with Mizzou. So thy have played an identical conference schedule, and Oklahoma played a far, far tougher ooc and your garbage formula somehow has OU only playing slightly stronger schedule?
Explain how Cincy, TCU, UW, and 1AA is only slightly better than 1AA, 1AA, Nevada, and SMU?
Waiting to here the bullshite spin on this one.
Why don't you just make your own formula and show it to everybody? If you don't like mine, make one that's better.

I really don't need to make a better one, when a much better one is already available.
Really though Show me how Nevada, SMU, 1AA and 1AA, is only slightly worse, than Cincy, TCU, UW, and 1AA?
Are you counting the records of 1AA teams or something that is skewing your results.
Really all of this criticism is helpful to you. It will help identify flaws and then you can correct them. That is if you are interested in improving your formula.

21 Oregon St. at 8-4 over 24. Oregon at 9-3?

Quality win total favors Texas Tech. Without it, Oklahoma is #2.
It's also the reason why Oregon State is ranked ahead of Oregon; Oregon State has a hefty quality win that bumps it up about 7 spots. Oregon has no quality wins. (As it stands right now, victories over my top 11 are quality wins; this varies from week to week.)

quote:There's no such thing as improving a formula. That's just making a new formula; I've done it about 20 times. This is the one I like the best, and I'll continue to use it. Whether or not you like it is of no concern to me.

You are welcome to look at my formula and tell me what you think is wrong with it, but you are unwilling to do so for some reason; that's why I don't care for your opinions. I have opinions, too, that contradict what my formula spits out; big deal. Formulas like these are designed to give us some sense of perspective; in that sense, my formula is successful.
Frankly, I'm tired of your opinions, and your claims that my formula is bad are baseless unless you show me what parts of the formula you could improve. Until you do that, I won't be responding to you any further.

I already said that I cannot make a better formula than Sagarin's predictor.

wtf??? Both teams have the same amount of quality wins by your standard. (top 11)

I told you that not accounting for MOV in some way, and not accounting for venue are both huge error's. Ask any football coach in America if it is harder to win on the road or not.

you live by your formula to your deathbed which IMO is stupid...throw some type of human element in there...you claim you think OU is better than texas tech yet you still vote texas tech higher
your poll makes no logical sense i don't care what formulas you are using boise st > florida ??

& please i'm tired of the it will work itself out in the end excuse...why would i want to see a poll that sucks arse for 13 weeks?

This is enormously flawed. For starters TT played 2 1AA teams, counting their wins and their opponents wins as = to Big 12 teams is complete BS.
OU SOS>>>>>TTU.

quote:The way I see it, it's you, MJR, and a few others who are living by my formula and making too big a deal about it. I think Florida is the best team in the country. I voted them lower according to my formula on a free message board. That isn't "defending the formula to the death." It's not a big deal, actually. It's just a different perspective; something to look at it. "For entertainment purposes only."

I'm not sure why some people don't see a difference between an opinion and the results of an equation. I have the former just like everyone else; I like having the latter, too.

Guys, why don't you offer me some tweaks? It takes about two minutes to plug them in.

USC smoked 2 top-15 teams. Penn St beat 1 top-15 team in a close game.
No, they beat 2 top 15 teams according to your rankings. They each beat tOSU, played very similar schedules, but the difference is Penn St convincingly beat the team that upset USC.
And before you trot out Sagarin's SOS rankings, dont forget that USC's is going to drop once they play UCLA.

The problem is that computer formula's cannot see the games. Now I do not discount them, and they are valuable tools in determining rankings, but that is all they should be, tools. One should use a computer ranking as a guide then the human perspective should be added to form one's poll.

How many games do you think the coaches see?
Posted on 12/1/08 at 1:32 pm to The Easter Bunny
Very very few. The polls in use today are a joke period. If you took the top 15 or 20 AP voters that would be a solid poll, but there are some ridiculous voters in that thing. Scott Wolf who I consider the worst of the bunch. you can go to Pollstalker.com and see how each AP voter voted each week.
Posted on 12/1/08 at 1:47 pm to MJRuffalo
Exactly. Complaining that the computers don't watch the games isn't that big of a deal since at least the computers take every game into consideration where we're lucky if the coaches even see highlights on sportscenter.
The fact that the AP and Harris voters don't watch more games is what's really disturbing to me.
