usually the casinos will comp room, airfare, and tourney entries in order to have some "celebs" play these types of events.
some guys get an appearance fee too

thats probably worked out on an individual player basis. but it wouldnt surprise me if guys like scotty, who are fan favorites, is basically on a true freeroll.
