It is stupid. If a td is scored, other team should get a chance

Correct. But you have to force the 2nd team to play for the win. So if 1st team gets 7, second team must go for 2 after scoring a TD. That is the purpose of OT: to break a tie and determine a winner.

Your proposal defeats your purpose as well.

IF it boils down to the idea that “the coin toss shouldn’t decide the win” - which was the reasoning behind both teams getting the ball if a field goal was kicked - then both teams should be guaranteed an equal possession with the same rules.

Now, with that said, in a ten minute OT where the game does become sudden death after each team has had a possession, the coach of the second team may decide to go for two and the win.

Why wait for each team to have a possession to make it sudden death? I’m a ten minute OT, a fg-fg sequence favors the team who wins the coin toss. Chances are that the 3rd possession is the last possession.

I recall in 2022 where Indy vs Denver was 9-9 heading to OT. Indy got the ball first and kicked a fg. Denver drove down inside the 5 and chose to go for the win. That’s how it should be. There was a winner, there was a loser. If Denver kicked a fg, it would’ve been a 12-12 and likely ended in a tie. Why are we allowing teams to play for tie in OT when we are trying to break the tie in the first place?

Perhaps there is confusion over what we’re discussing. I am all for, in the situation you described, the second team choosing to go for the win.

But I don’t think the second team should by rule be forced to go for the win by virtue of the fact they lost the coin flip.

You want a climactic ending in the least amount of time possible

So then just flip a coin to declare the winner?

Of course not. You still want a fair competition where each team has an equal chance to win.

Remember too, that the whole reason the NFL OT rules changed was because the team that won the coin flip had too much of an advantage.

if you want to force both teams to go for 2 in OT, then do it. But to create an unnatural burden on the second team is wrong.
