KLFY 10 sucks the donkey dick for sports btw. I just wanted to add this. One of the biggest games in the state last night, and for STM in a few years, and they show maybe 10-20 seconds of highlights, and fricked that up too. Terrible terrible sports team there.

There were so many discouraging moments for the homestanding Cougars in St. Thomas More's thrilling 70-68 overtime Class 4A state quarterfinal win over St. Augustine on Tuesday that coach Danny Broussard looked more like a zombie than a triumphant coach when it was over.
Almost entering the lockerroom area in a trance, Broussard could hardly believe what he was pretty sure he just witnessed.
It certainly looked improbable when his Cougars were trailing 30-13 early in the third period still having trouble getting any kind of an offense going against St. Augustine's halfcourt defense.
It looked even worse after the Purple Knights responded to STM's first big run with a 6-0 run of their own to get it back to 37-25 with 2:35 left in the third.
Same scenario at 44-35 with 6:46 left after STM had narrowed the gap to five and again at 52-43 with 2:58 left to play after the Cougars had gotten as close as four points three minutes before.
"Special is the only word I can think of right now," said Broussard, whose Cougars will play Istrouma in the semifinals likely either in Hammond or Lake Charles. "This is a special team. That was a special win. There were so many times in that game where just nothing was going our way. We weren't making any free throws. They weren't supposed to be a good outside shooting team and they were knocking down shots and we were just having such a hard time against their halfcourt defense.
"(Down 26-12) At the half, the only thing I told the kids is that I believed in them and that there was a long time to go and if we could just keep chopping away at it that I believed they could do it."
Two players in particular certainly got the message — Ryan Randle and Trey Touchet.
Down 56-48 with 1:58 left in regulation, Randle literally willed STM into the overtime period with his own personal 10-2 run on St. Augustine to force overtime at 58-58.
"I was just thinking that I wasn't going to let our seniors go out like this, especially in our house," Randle said.
First, Randle hit a 3-pointer at 1:46 and then he nailed three straight free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt in the right corner after missing several free throws earlier in the game.
"I just told myself that I had been practicing my free throws all season long to get better," Randle said. "I just told myself to stick with my routine."
Then he turned a Brandon Bergeron steal into a driving layup to tie it with 1:24 and even gave the Cougars their first lead of the night at 58-56 with 52 seconds left with another driving layup.
"That basket made me so happy, because that was our first lead of the game," said Randle, who finished with 22 points. "St. Aug was just so long defensively. Their length made it very hard on us."
Then it was almost like Randle then handed the baton over to Touchet, once the two teams got to overtime and the other junior leader took the Cougars home.
Craig Victor got St. Augustine going with two of his team-high 27 points, to go along with nine rebounds, but Touchet quickly turned in one of his many drives to the basket into a pair of free throws to tie it.
That plan worked again at 1:43 to tie it at 62-all and again at 1:24 to give STM a 64-63 lead and then Touchet delivered perhaps the play of the game with a steal and a three-point play after what looked like a wasted trip down the field for a 67-66 lead with 45 seconds left.
"I noticed early in the game that they couldn't stop me going to the basket and my jump shot wasn't falling, so I just decided to keep taking it to the basket," Touchet said.
And believe it or not, he still wasn't done. Victor turned a rebound into a dunk with 15 seconds left to give the Knights the lead again at 68-67.
But Touchet went right back to the drive, this time to the right, and the layup fell with two seconds left for the game-winner.
"It was just very emotional," said Touchet, who finished the night with 35 points on 18-of-22 shooting at the line. "I was crying in the lockeroom after the game, just thinking about all the hard work that went into this and it's finally paying off."

Sounds like to me the STM kids listened to their coach and believed in his gameplan and St. Aug kids played undisciplined down the stretch.

it definitely was a contrast of the two systems
we were laughing in the stand bc STM brings a kid off the bench who is maybe, maybeeee 5'6. st aug got in foul trouble and this kid gets off the bench and takes off his warmups and he's like 6'5 with arms that are 6'8, and just a specimen
