He was using an open hand grip. He's a dumbass for using that grip and it's his own fault. Of course, he'll probably get paid.

Sidenote: It amuses me when SEC fans refer to Southern Cal as "USCw". To the rest of the country, there is only one "USC" - and it isn't in south carolina.

To note: we have to put a little "t" by your school, to make "tOSU", so we won't confuse you with another OSU in Stillwater.

just saw his press conference clips, amazing that they got him eligible for college. He announced he was suing the "University of South California" then went on to use a bunch of actual words for the next 2 minutes, none of which joined together to make any understandable sentences.

he did not say "South" California. I am sure he knew the name of the school he played for. Regarding the other comments, it was pretty clear he was as nervous as can be.

On a more posotive note, considering they had to rebuild his larnyx, his voice sounds great.

I’ve seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat,” said strength and conditioning coach Chris Carlisle, who was standing 10 feet away when the accident happened. “We’re fortunate he was being spotted.”
Seems like the USC coaches were having their players bench with this technique.
