1) LSU Tigers football - since birth (1982), active fan since age 5 (1987). Hate Bama, Auburn, and Florida the most.
2) Houston Oilers - don't know what you want to do about teams that move, but this definitely sucked. I don't know if the Texans have filled that void yet, either. Hate the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys.
3) Houston Rockets - fan since late 1980s. Hate San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavs, Utah Jazz, and Seattle Supersonics.

I'll do it for him:
LSU -- Auburn
Oilers -- Steelers
Rockets -- Jazz

Oilers -- Steelers
Rockets -- Jazz

I'm third most miserable, unless these are golf scores.

quote:Yeah in case any of you don't know, this is the idea. I count myself as a Saints/LSU fan since 1987 when I started watching sports and actively rooting.

FYI any of you who are saying that you've been a ___ fan since the day you were born, I'm just arbitrarily subtracting 7 from that and counting you a fan since then (It won't make too much of a difference though).

how did you get these numbers and what do they represent? the larger number is the better quality of life?
Posted on 4/26/11 at 12:45 am to UFownstSECsince1950
Here's the basic formula right now:
a = number of titles Team has won since you've been an active fan
b = number of years you've been an active Team fan
c = Team's rank in your list of teams
d = number of years since Team's last championship (this number is not to exceed b; if you've been a Cubs fan for 25 years, we're counting 25, not 101
)
a divided by b divided by c divided by d
Calculate that for each of your teams and add the totals. This total is f.
Then do everything above, but for each antiTeam you've listed. The total you get is g.
Your happiness/misery index:
HMI = f - g/2
Example:
Let's say I'm from Detroit, and I love all the four pro sports teams in Detroit, and the teams I hate are the ones from Chicago, and I've been rooting for 20 years.
Remember:
a = number of titles Team has won since you've been an active fan
b = number of years you've been an active Team fan
c = Team's rank in your list of teams
d = number of years since Team's last championship
Rank - Team - # of years - # of titles - years since last title
1 - Red Wings - 20 - 4 - 3
2 - Lions - 20 - 0 - (20)
3 - Tigers - 20 - 0 - (20)
4 - Pistons - 20 - 1 - 7
Rank - antiTeam - # of years - # of titles - years since last title
1 - Blackhawks - 20 - 1 - 1
2 - Bearsss - 20 - 0 - (20)
3 - White Sox - 20 - 1 - 5
4 - Bullsss - 20 - 6 - 13
When you punch all the numbers, this Detroit fan comes out with a 4.18. Is that happy? I'd say it's sort of happy since his #1 team has four Stanley Cups since he's been watching hockey, and it hasn't been too long since their last Cup. But, I'm trying to crunch the numbers for a lot of people before I determine what is happy and what is miserable.
So let me do two more examples:
Jerry from Cleveland:
1 - Browns - 40 - 0 - (40)
2 - Indians - 40 - 0 - (40)
3 - Cavaliers - 40 - 0 - (40)
4 - Blue Jackets - 11 - 0 - (11)
1 - Steelers - 40 - 6 - 2
2 - Yankees - 40 - 7 - 1
3 - Bullsss - 40 - 6 - 13
4 - Red Wings - 11 - 2 - 3
Jerry gets a -8.53. He should kill himself.
Contrast this with Chickenshit Darrell a kid from Boston just finishing up his freshman year at the University of Connecticut:
1 - Connecticut men's basketball - 1 - 1 - (1)
2 - Patriots - 10 - 3 - 6
3 - Red Sox - 10 - 2 - 3
4 - Celtics - 10 - 1 - 3
1 - Providence - 1 - 0 - (1)
2 - Jets - 10 - 0 - (10)
3 - Yankees - 10 - 1 - 1
4 - Knicks - 10 - 0 - (10)
This a-hole has a 103.89, and we should murder him.

1) Yankees, Red Sox, 16 years
2) LSU football, Arkansas, 16 years
3) LSU basketball, Arkansas, 11 years
4) Saints, Falcons, 11 years
5) Hornets, Lakers, 8 years
6) LSU baseball, Arkansas, 15 years
7) Baylor basketball, Texas, 5 years
ETA: Considering my teams have won 12 championships in my time as fandom, I would say I haven't suffered much at all. My least favorite teams have won 8 in that time frame, but 5 of them were won by the Lakers, who I really haven't started to hate until the last few years. So that hasn't been that bad.

21 years old
1) Georgia Football / Georgia Tech 12 years
2) Atlanta Braves / New York Mets 10 years
3) Atlanta Falcons / New Orleans Saints 4 years
4) UGA basketball / GT Basketball 6 years
5) UGA baseball / GT Baseball 4 years

i root for UNC when UGA doesn't play but i figure i'll get a more accurate misery rating without them. also, i know its shitty i have 2 nfl teams but cmon, both teams pedigree is shite and i hated mike vick and all the fair weather atlantans when he was here. i didn't like them until he got arrested and harrington started. so i guess if you have to chose one nfl team i'd chose the falcons
