Cool, thanks! I knew running through would be faster.

If it wasn't Olympic sprinters would be diving across the finish line.

They did one with aluminum vs wood bats, featuring Nomaaaaaaaah

There was one on the show that they stole sports science from showing all of the science in rugby. It was similar to the Jacobs one, but with more stuff. That show was a half an hour long and featured a lot more and went into more detail. In other words, it was done properly and not dumbed down for the typical sports center viewer.

I can't believe anyone ever thought it wasn't faster.

If you watch the video, there is a moment when he dives that diving puts him in front of the "running" one. Theoretically if he dove closer to the bag, to the point that he touched the bag right before he left his feet...it would in fact get him there faster.

yea, because no one wants to dive head first at 25 MPH into hard rubber

I'm not sure about that. He times the dive perfect. Even if he dove later, it would still take longer to fall to the bag, than just to run through it.

Trust me - if it really were faster they would do it if it meant quicker times.

It always drives me nuts when I see professional baseball players dive into first when the throw isn't even up the line.
