Why has size and speed increased so greatly over time? Today's players on average are bigger, stronger and faster than guys from the recent past(80's and 90's). I would have to science(aka PEDs) are way more advanced. They develop certain compounds for the sole purpose to circumvent drug testing.

Training methods have really improved that much since then. Guys playing in the NFL in the '80s probably didn't set foot in a real weight room until they hit college, if they had even lifted before this at all. They're starting in 6th grade now. There's year round training now as well. My dad, who played high school ball in the late '70s, told me that once their season ended they didn't do anything football related till spring training then after that nothing until fall camp. I graduated 3 years ago and we got off until after Thanksgiving after our season ended ,then started speed and agility training up until spring training. We had 4 hour workouts every morning all summer mixed in with lifting 4 days a week year round.

Which method do you think would produce better athletes? We were awful too. I can only imagine how much more intense the big HS programs workouts are.

Not saying nutrition and training hasn't improved, it can only do so much. You have to be naive to think that today's players are solely the result of better nutrition and training methods. Yes, they're the genetic 1%, but they're still human. To keep their size and be able to recover the way they need to, an individual needs exogenous compounds for that.

I'm not saying some of the players don't take PED's, I know some do. I'm saying some of the players coming out of high school now are bigger/stronger/faster than players coming out of college were 30 years ago. So when they hit college they're only going to get that much stronger there and so on. I think it's more a result of how much more focused and how early they're starting kids than anything else.
