Holtz was a mentor to Rein and Rein worked under him at a few different schools before he became head coach at NC State. I guess he feels that if he hadn’t gone to LSU he never would have been on that recruiting trip when the plane crashed and said in a documentary about Rein that LSU was a tremendous opportunity for Rein but that now he wished he hadn’t gone. So that’s always been the scuttlebutt for why Lou seemed to dislike LSU. Whether or not that’s true I guess we’ll never know, but grief can take you to some weird places.
