Miami was selected by "voters with opinions" to play in that game.
based on their play on the field
you make it seem like voters use no objective data (namely wins and losses) when ranking teams. it's not some random beauty contest

We'll never know who was the real champion that year
no. we do. as long as you define "champion" as "best team during the year," and i don't know why you wouldn't

i'm curious under what objective measure were the giants a better team than the pats
They have Super Bowl hardware, and the Pats have nothing but a good regular season record. That's pretty irrefutable evidence.
Now if you want to get subjective, I'm sure you and most polls will brand the Pats champs, and you'll win a cookie. But the NFL playoff systems doesn't play subjective.

And the system is bullshite.
yeah i hate a system that (1) produces results and (2) eliminates flukes

no, the NFL playoff system does things like let a 7-loss team win the title and allow teams with inferior records (with weaker SOS) in over those with better records (and stronger SOS). brilliant system

Only because you have to impress & patronize voters each game which is again, bullshite. You win ugly in the NFL, you still get home field advantage. You win ugly in CFB, and you get jumped by teams that won blowouts against shitty teams. frick that.

Compared to every other league that has a playoff system, yeah, it's exactly that, a beauty contest. Hey I thought Miss Universe should have been Ms Puerto Rico, but that's my opinion. However, they did use some voting criteria to pick Ms Venezuela, so it wasn't that random, and it is hard to agrue with the results.

"During the year"? It's how you finish. We'll never know if another team could finish better than Miami. Anyone that says otherwise is just spouting opinion.

Ask an Auburn fan about those 2004 results.

You sound like a Vikings fan after the NFCCG.

Kind of like the BCS giving autobids to a 7-4 Pitt team?

if the NCAA implements a playoff, with such a short season relative to the other big two, they might mandate no more than 6 home games per team. If that happens, universities will be clamoring for the curent or previous ways.

Anyone who defends letting humans(much less sports media and washed up former coaches, neither of which have time to watch and evaluate 120 football teams) vote on who the best team in a sport is, is obviously not worth arguing with.
Congrats BCS defenders only you knew that the figure skating model is better than the NFL model.
eta: this is who votes in the harris poll by the way:

at least theres no gerry dinardo or terry bradshaw this year.
