I thought it was just pro-wrestling...is it or isn't it? Also, what is the conceivable appeal to any human in any walk of life?

No it's not fake. I go see the local team in Birmingham sometimes. It's fun.

Bawdy broads on roller skates, knocking each other down.... what's not to like?

I know a few women here that are on the team. Pretty manly chicks though.

I'm not sure whether or not the outcome is pre-determined, but it sure seems less scripted. It also seems like they have intentionally cut out much of the showmanship that it once had in order to be taken a bit more seriously. It seems to still have some campy elements such as nicknames, but nowhere near the level of what pro-wrestling does.

I think it's pretty appealing as a spectator event. A bunch of chicks who love to fight get paid shite money (if anything) to elbow and leverage each other for the purpose of knocking each other on their asses. Scoring is involved and it's supposedly not even a judgmental thing like boxing or gymnastics. I think it has something to do with a designated scorer lapping the other carpet munchers.

It's the perfect starter for a night out with the guys. I'd pay to watch that any day over soccer, golf, or tennis.

Hey Creaux,

Yep. Took a break. Now I'm trying to keep my TD visits to a minimum.

When I saw your post I looked up your some of your recent offerings, and as usual, you crack me up!

I hope all is well. Is your oldest in college yet?

BTW, did you hear there is talk of a high school reunion this year. Supposedly going to be more informal. It's been floating around facebook world, which I usually avoid much more successfully than this site!

In order to avoid turning this into an IM thread, you and I are going to have to catch a roller derby one of these days. Does New Orleans have a team? The wife of one of my friends is on the Baton Rouge team, but I haven't seen a match yet. I'd love to learn more about it.

My oldest is finishing his junior year in h.s. and the lucky fella can't seem to shake the ladies off. I'd like to see him be more committed to the academics, but I didn't exactly lead by example at that age. I can only hope he'll be a late bloomer like his dad.

Let me know when you get details about the .....holy crap....25 year reunion. When I moved 5 years ago, I stopped getting mail from them and I haven't bothered to update the alumni office. I had a great time for the 20th and would definitely make a trip into town if it happens.
