The B1G West, if they could figure out the recruiting pitch,
no recruiting pitch can get Southern athletes to brave the cold 1,500 miles from home

Ohio State doesn't seem to have a problem bringing in recruits from Southern states.

They don't need to do anything w/divisions. The West will eventually get a few.

The SEC has the same problem with the East and the East never really has a come up

Minnesota is still recuperating from a snobby academic self-nuke that looked down on the hoi polloi of football fans for about 40 years. They're reconfiguring. The fanbase exists. It's just very jaded, and in very much the exact same place that Wisconsin was pre-Alvarez.

Those states are the same. I've seen Minnesota fans sell out women's effing volley ball games. Prior to the Big Ten blowing up college hockey, Minnesota home games were the hardest ticket to get in town. They're there. It's very much a "if you build it, they will come" thing.

Minnesota -should- be a strong program. They have piles of money in that state.

Eh. Columbus cold isn't quite the same as it is in MN. There's "this sucks" cold and "you might die" cold.

Drop a kid from Georgia off in Minneapolis in January and it might be -10, and he's the only one WTFing about it.

The area is severely under-scouted and underdeveloped. More the latter. There's a reason NDSU, SDSU recently, Northern Iowa, etc. are consistently good and scare FBS teams. There are an abundance of linemen in that part of the world. They just have to import their fast dudes.

I mean they gotta try though. They have to import speed. The question is what do they have to do to start playing at their monetary weight level, and how do they access it? Get money, need athletes. Got athletes, do good, get more money. NIL might open some things up for them once it becomes more structured?

This mid tier 4 star brought to you by Target, or Best Buy, or 3M, or Cargill, or Wells Fargo. Or whatever.

Scouting in WI has picked up so now UW is actually having some battles for highly rated O lineman with teams like OSU and ND.

Generally O lineman, some D line and linebackers are able to be recruited at home. Some RB's as well with Allen and Melvin being from WI.

Speed guys generally have to come from out of state and the highly ranked ones are hard to pull versus big name schools. UW has been recruiting nationally for some time with players from FL, CA, etc. It's just hard pulling the 4 stars.

Check out the first five players on NDSU's roster

Those skill positions ain't kids from the Dakotas.

Yeah but the enormous majority of kids whose position includes the word "Line" are from KC and north, largely north. Which was the point- There are an abundance of big people that are underdeveloped for football because a bunch of them are off deer hunting or playing hockey in their downtime instead of year around training.

Speed, obviously, they're bringing in from long distance.
