FYI, in 2012 there were a total of 3483 drug tests of tennis players world-wide, of which 767 were out of competition. For comparison, there were 27,836 drug tests in track and field (14,364 OOC) and 20,624 in cycling (7460 OOC).

If the the tests can't detect whatever PED is being used then what do those #'s tell us?

I'm not sure what your question is. My theory is that the frequency of random, OOC testing is directly related to the frequency of drug busts and inversely related to the willingness of athletes to dope.

My question to you isi the tests can't always detect the PED being used, that the science of masking is ahead of testing, then why should I care about your theory?

The testing is getting better and better. There was no EPO test when Lance Armstrong was winning Tours, but there is now. There used to not be an HGH test, but there is now. Analytical equipment (gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, atomic absorption spectrometers, etc.) is getting more and more sensitive. As a result, samples that were frozen 10-15 years, have been thawed out and shown to contain PED's despite the fact that they tested clean at the time the athletes gave them. Even Lance Armstrong admitted in his Oprah interview that his scheme for beating the tests when his was riding wouldn't work today.

Furthermore, testing agencies have shown an increased willingness to do blood tests, which cost considerably more than urine tests, but are a lot harder for athletes to manipulate.

How would you explain the record number of high profile drug busts leading up to this year's world track and field championships?

EDIT: I believe the sports that have serious PED testing programs (eg. cycling, track & field, MLB, etc.) are the cleanest they have ever been.

Posted by lsufan112001 look close at the equation bobby... not just mass is in the equation. hitting and throwing are two different things.

Serving and pitching are actually quite similar.

The mass that would matter is the mass of the racquet. The mass of the player's stomach doesn't affect a thing. And I can't believe I'm having to fricking explain this.

How many of the players suspended in the biogenesis scandal actually tested positive?

If MLB hadn't been willing to pay off the doctor involved their testing program wouldn't have caught shite.

I can link dozens of articles that make no mention of body mass when discussing the physics of throwing a baseball, football or javelin. Can you link just one article that does mention body mass as a relevant factor?

I believe law enforcement and investigative agencies are a important part of any PED enforcement policy. are you familiar with Operacion Puerto and the Festina Affair? It was actually the FBI that took down Marion Jones, not the IAAF. However, let's not forget that Ryan Braun did actually test positive in 2011 but got off on a technicality.

Yeah that's not what happened in this scenario. An ex-employee was pissed and turned in the clinic.

Also its irrelevant to my point about testing.

Yeah, but didn't MLB follow that up by launching an investigation?

If your point is that testing isn't perfect, I agree. However, if your point is that cycling, track & field and MLB are no cleaner today than they were 10 years ago, I vehemently disagree.

Wait what?

Sorry just found this thread. I love Serpenis, but she is definitely on roids. She has consistently gotten out of testing and she looks like she should be in the WWE.

She is also 32 and at her peak. Thats not right. Federer hit a wall at 32, as did samprus as do most.
