Alabama has arguably the Top 2, Bear & Saban, but not much after that.

I don't think there's any arguing Bama has the top two. But I think you're sleeping on Wallace Wade at Bama.

As much as I hate Alabama Wallace Wade, Bear Bryant, Nick Saban, Gene Stallings, and Frank Thomas > whatever Ohio State has.

Would John Cooper have won a natty if there were a playoff in the ‘90s? ‘96 or ‘98?

Maybe, but Urban and Day wouldn't have a natty under that system so kinda all evens out. Honestly, Tressel probably wouldn't either because they would have gone to the Rose Bowl and Miami would have been voted #1 even if OSU were undefeated.

I have no idea how it would have played out in the old system but I will say there is no reason to not have some sort of 4+ team playoff. 12 may be too many but looking at 2014 is a perfect example. 3/4 teams in the CFP, and the 5th and 6th ranked team all had 1 loss. The only undefeated team was FSU in a bad ACC.

OSU in the old system likely would have won the Rose Bowl against #2 Oregon. Alabama would have won the Sugar. OSU and Bama may have had identical records. Then it's just a vote

Thankfully they moved past just 2 or voting. Again, 4 may not be enough and 12 is probably too many

My comment wasn't meant to be a slight to any of those coaches just an observation based on how things would have played out.

Auburn was on probation and ineligible for post-season play.
