Apparently, you have to get a note from the coaches at the previous school, even if the coaches aren't there anymore.

Funny story (kinda): One time, Southern Miss basketball played LSU in Biloxi. Southern Miss students with an ID got a discount. I went to the game, wearing an LSU shirt, showed my Southern Miss ID to get the discount, and confused the ticket booth gal.
