maybe the Saints could use the extra space

They should build a new, state of the art high school football stadium there.
New Orleans needs one badly.
Compare our stadiums to the ones elsewhere around the country. It is embarrassing for an area that takes football so seriously.

All that money Buford in Georgia spent and Gormley probably will still have a busted scoreboard this season
Like where does the money in NOLA go
The only team that would benefit from a new stadium at Zephyr Field is Curtis…

The school board is responsible for maintaining the property once it's built, and it's currently looking for a third party to run its operations.
9th Ward Stadium Incorporated, the group that took over the project in 2019, estimates it will be open by 2027.
8 years (and longer if you count the first try) for something Archbishop Shaw built in like 2
And what legit stadium has a third party running it? I feel like this is a grift because we would never have a third party running Bobby Nuss, nor do I think Jefferson Parish would do that either.

Fielkow said the group is looking for a business or community member to donate a large amount for field and/or stadium naming rights.

I had no idea what this was until reading

Sounds like private equity looking for a larger market. Even though the Gold likely had better attendance than most MLR teams.
Time to turn the NOLA Gold office in Gretna back into the Rugby Pub.

Nothing good ever happens when private equity gets involved.

I need a better response than that
You might not like the private equity that finds inefficiency in business because it leads to outcomes you don’t like, but do you blame them for being better businessmen than any of us?

First, sad news, only went to 1 match but thought it was fun and filled the gap between football/basketball seasons.
Second, now that the convention center Top Golf project is dead I wonder if they will re-visit putting a high-end minor-league soccer stadium there that could also host rugby? Might be enough to support a new team?

I want a soccer stadium that could get accepted into MLS if they ever do Pro/Rel. anything else is a waste of time

I clicked because I thought someone died, and I wanted to pay my respects and learn more about who had a badass name like Nola Gold.

That might be asking a lot! Although other than number of seats does it really matter? Personal opinion and off-topic, MLS in its current form (management and finances) ain't never agreeing to full pro/rel. Either way pro-rugby would be a great secondary tenant if a new stadium happens.
But haven't heard an update since 2022 -- New Orleans is set to get a professional soccer franchise, but where will the team play? -- LINK

The United Soccer League is expanding to New Orleans and plans to have a new team playing in its top-tier Championship league by 2025.
The 10-year-old soccer league, which has been operating hitherto as an informal "farm team" affiliate of Major League Soccer, now wants to start its New Orleans franchise before 2026 to take advantage of anticipated enthusiasm for the sport ahead of the FIFA World Cup tournament at U.S. venues that year. The plan is to have both men's and women's teams playing in the league's top divisions.

It’s dead…2025 season is winding down.
Is there enough land there for a new Pelicans arena?

Public schools don't pay to play in Gormley so only the catholic schools are the ones putting money into the stadium.
JP would benefit having another football stadium setup but should consider turf so no they get no rainouts. The demand for fields is there. Nobody wants to play their games on a Saturday.

Rugby is a great sport. I wish it would catch on.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like neither rugby nor minor league soccer would generate enough fan support in NOLA to remotely justify an expensive new stadium on such a prime piece of real estate.
Let them play at Yulman for a couple of seasons and prove there's enough fan interest before we go spending tens of millions on a brand new stadium for sports that the area doesn't have a history of supporting.

It’s been going on for 100 years in NOLA, I don’t see the issue with it. I think it’s better than playing on school night Thursdays when you might go up against the Saints
With the high school referee shortage you need more games not on Friday nights…
